JUGEE battery teardown short version for "norms".

This is the extra short 3 min version of the JUGEE battery teardown.

The JUGEE battery teardown was arduous.

I've made two versions of the JUGEE 1.5V rechargeable lithium cell video.  One is 3 minutes long (I'm about to upload it) and the other is 36 minutes long, and involves dremeling the lithium cell case.

Even after that it doesn't answer all the questions, because the resin they used was...

Not my video. Malware for fast chargers.

It appears that some fast chargers can be updated via their cable, and experimental malware has been written that allows a small device to be plugged into a fast charger and modifies its code so that whatever voltage is negotiated is replaced with the full 20V anyway.

Hacking a stinky pink ring.

I filmed this video at a ridiculous time (about 6am) when the previous video subject turned out to be very time consuming due to a construction that is trying to be Clive-proof.  (I will defeat it!)

Not a video (yet). Really hard encapsulation.

The picture is of a tiny circuit board that fits on the end of a lithium cell in a high profile Jugee rechargeable AA cell that puts out a solid 1.5V for most of the discharge and then 1V to signal that its running low and is about to cut off.

This was supposed to be last nights video, but ...

OMG! Unflattering thumbnail.

Something's glitching.   Youtube doesn't like my compression destroying mega Gallium panel.

Here it is though, and it takes around three hours to build, mainly because you need to solder one lead of each LED first and then reflow it while lining it up with gentle finger pressure. ...

Resistors. 70 minutes.

Starting with preformed resistors, time to insert and solder 70 minutes.

Now for the LEDs.

Uh-oh. The prototypes have arrived.

Pretty fast shipping even by standard mail, and no duty - which was nice.

Now I just have to muster the courage to start making one.

Tonight's live stream link. (unlisted)

That's the stream set up.  It turned out that the reason I couldn't set it up before was due to my inability to differentiate between 12 and 24hr time.  So arranging it for 9am this morning was not possible due to YouTube not implementing time travel yet.

Exploring and hacking some mains RGB strip.

This stuff is "minimalist".  It's basically 120/240V RGB LED tape in the style of neon.

It uses a simply remote control unit to allow colour mixing and fading by phase angle control.

Nice machining - crap electronics.

If you've noticed a slight lull in videos recently it's because I was trying to do my annual tax stuff.  It's strange how I can write assembly code for microcontrollers, but when it comes to working out how I spent every single penny over the last year it leaves my head spinning.

But i...

PCB error on disco shart (not dramatic).

There's an error on the disco shart PCB that will not affect the 120V use, but will bridge half the LEDs for 230V use.  It's not terminal, but a track will need to be cut to get the other half lit in 230V mode.

This is why I shouldn't really put up a PCB file before receiving the proto...

Not a video (yet). Was this a good idea? (No.)

It seemed a good idea at the time.  Scale the LED matrix up to A4 size.

In hindsight that means a 13 by 18 array of LEDs (234) with four solder joints per LED including the resistors, and another two for the power connection.

938 solder joints......

I've ordered five.
