Today's set up is not one I'm too familiar with. Besides the 10% Sig Tor hatched by the SPC, storm cell motions closer to 40 mph is much more doable than Friday's 50mph+ nightmare. Below is my expression of a hairball coughed up by an old cat after eating some exotic tapestry. Current plan ...

After a detailed forecast I've decided to sit this one out. The weak signal of discrete supercells in the models + distance + 50 mph potential cell motions + jungle = slim odds of pretty photos. If I was chasing, I'd start off somewhere between, NE Louisiana and Jackson MS.
Flip a coin...
HEADS / A = Tail End Charlie potential. Tornado more unlikely but perhaps some good structure and lightning in great chase terrain.
TAILS / B = Best hodographs / STP (Significant Tornado Parameters) if a discrete storm can hang around.
Flow parallel to...

Above is my current target (black circles). I'll be watching for discrete supercells a little further south and will try to update here with notes throughout the day if you guys do the same. Expecting some pretty supercells structures, most of which perhaps undercut by cold outflow. W...

Looks like a chance for supercells tomorrow around the Red River & the following day (Friday) is the premiere of "Supercell" in North Dallas. Why not chase even if it does line up into a big squeegee?

Hey Gang,
Next Friday March 17th I'll be in Dallas TX for a premiere of the movie followed by a discussion Q&A with the director. I'm posting the ticket sales link here first. It's a small room with less than 200 seats and I have no idea how fast it will sell out, or if it w...

Tonight I'll be uploading a video to YouTube of one of the greatest things I've ever captured. This incredible blue jet was the fruit of a 2 year project collaborating with Paul Smith for NHK in Japan. Their TV show has aired in Japan and so I can now show you guys the goods.

I've focused my attention on the early, western, minimal forest portion of the 10% risk when storms have the best chance of being discreet according to the CAMS (Convective Allowing Models).

ABOVE: It currently looks like supercell structures are going to track along the warm front across the ArkLaTex vicinity. I'm currently nervously sitting out this event at home with FOMO. Say "home with FOMO" ten times fast.

Things panned out as expected yesterday with a mostly QLCS (Linear storm mode) tornado event. QLCS tornadoes are often weak and non-photogenic compared to supercell tornadoes.
RATHER THAN BITE on the early weird tornado warnings, Mike Castles, Mr. Ed and I patiently waited sout...

Long range models saw this event coming days ago and have been fairly consistent run to run resolving a target in the ENH (Enhanced) zone above.
Below, at 6PM, the GFS has an area of 1K+ surface CAPE in a highly sheered environment.

Hello Patrons,
Below in the attachments is a high res photo file for you to download, print, or just save as a screen saver. This was a tornado warned storm on May 31, last year just south of the Red River. No idea what was going on inside that scary core.

I'm currently still sitting on the fence for either bailing on my scheduled obligation this evening and chasing what appears to be low chances of daytime photogenic tornado opportunity near Dallas.
The higher tornado threat appears to be near the MS River well after dark.

Hello Patrons,
If there are no unseen snags, There's a good chance I'll upload Tornadoes of 2022 tonight or tomorrow morning. If I can't complete it by then, it'll have to wait another week until I get back from Arizona and Utah. My Thai in-laws are visiting and we're taki...

"Tornadoes of 2022" is whittled down to about an hour. Wednesday might be a storm chase in TX, LA, AR, & MS.
Let's catch up on all the craziness tomorrow night. I'll post a reminder with the goods tomorrow evening. Looking forward!

I need to get on the road. At a glance, today's setup looks to be a haystack needle hunt with a few clues where the needles will be. Multiple rounds of thunderstorms will complicate precision forecasting so ATTM (at the moment) I'm biased toward the western fringe of the STP (Significant To...

Tornado warned supercells have been marching across TX/Ok/KS overnight. I haven’t seen any nasty reports in my feeds.
Today has potential for nasty jungle reports. I’ll be boarding a flight to Denver soon and will miss out, though I’m not ruling out an interesting aerial view.

Hey Golden Grahams,
2016 was the year. Almost every chase provided extremely photogenic storms, tornadoes, lightning, structure and clouds. I often wonder if I will every see a better storm season (2019 wasn't too shabby). Here's an April lightning storm in Bennington Kansas.
