The fact that they're "homunculi" is a non-integral part of the story because you can have the exact same plot and characters while writing them as human. The writers of FMA made the existence of the homunculi as the plot itself not knowing about the existence of The Dwarf in the Flask. In Brotherhood they're just standard villains meant to stop/stall the heroes from getting what they want. In FMA they're the consequences of the heroes getting what they want.

Like lust is amazing and has tons of focus in fma but has none in fmab... While greed is subpar in fma but one of the best characters in the show in fmab. Pride, envy and wrath are all much better written in fmab then they are in fma as well. Fmas homunculi shine in the places fmab didnt make an effort to develop like Lusty. to say the homunculi in fmab are standard super powered villains is absolutely brain dead, when you have characters like greed, wrath, pride, and envy lol. Unless your someone who doesn't really delve into character writing, i don't get your take lol. Dante is definitely better than father tho, but she isnt a homunculi lol.

In other words, the Father purged himself from his seven sins/desires and turn them into individual homunculi. Recall that when he killed the first Greed he drank Greed's stone after burning him alive, and then to create the second Greed he took a stone out of his forehead. When he created Wrath, he asked Bradley "are you ready to become my Wrath?" Now with this episode you saw he can do those things becaus he has a huge philosopher stone inside him.

Hohenheim's Master caught something in a jar which possessed great knowledge that the Ishvalens (religious fanatics) saw as forbidden. It tempted the Xerxians with this knowledge in order to trick them. The Homunculi seem to be only standard superpowered villains as they serve no real purpose to the overall plot that a regular human couldn't fill. The first FMA series had a much better explanation for what the Homunculi are but dropped the ball character-wise.

2022-08-12 23:58:57 +0000 UTCThere’s also an extremely neat detail that you can appreciate after this episode : most amestrians have blue eyes like it was showed during scar flashback however Hohenheim, Edward and Alphonse all have blond hair and golden colored eyed, wich are the most recognizable physical traits among the inhabitants of Xerxes (since the three of them are the last direct descendants of this population)

2022-08-12 23:47:17 +0000 UTCyeah, still one of my favourite episodes of the show and probably In my top 20 from episodes of all time. i really love hohenheim and i feel awful for him, like... imagine so glad you ended up skipping the ova also, i knew from the start that you would end up feeling guilty about what you called him in the beginning 😂😂 don't get me wrong, still not ideal that the boys ended up growing up without a father, but at least he has a good excuse also, i just realised the voices from the fullmetal alchemist cards in the middle change in the dub (even though they're both in english) because in the sub version the voice in the slave 23 cards is werid as hell

IDK if you'll remember or not, but if you watch the first OP again, the first ten or fifteen seconds actually show young Hohenheim in his Xerxes clothes, with the big transmutation circle behind him.
