Underburbs Volume 4

Volume 4: Adventure Capital is officially underway, but I'm considering doing something a little different with this one. Issues 12-15 of The Underburbs all have the common thread of Winifred making everyone get jobs. However, unlike the four-part arc of Volume 3: Party Mix, these issues cover two distinct stories. Issues 12 and 13 are about Angela's babysitting adventures with Death-Anne, while 14 and 15 cover Winifred's trip to the stock exchange and Hammer's day off. This leads me to the point of this poll. Should I (a) present the issues as they appeared separately, or (b) edit the two stories together? This would be a big change to 14 and 15 in particular, as the two stories take place simultaneously. I'd be rearranging the pages so the Winifred and Hammer stories will happen in chronological order.

As for the special features, I'll be gathering all the concept art I can get my hands on, and TJ and I are writing a brand-new Death-Anne comic. Please leave some comments, as I'd love to have some input of this.

This isn't a dig at the readers, but at the end of the day the audience is often just a soundboard for ideas. Their adoration is fuel for your passion and their patronage doubly so, but you are the creative force of the work. They only time that audience opinion really overrules the creator is when you are a company that cares more about money than creative integrity and people are finally refusing to buy your product out of sheer disgust. Thanks Star Wars Battlefront 2, I preferred when you were an old xbox game. My point is do what you like, I'm sure it will be fine.

My thinking was that people who’ve read it before already have the originals, and people who hadn’t wouldn’t know the difference. But yeah, something to outline the changes would help.

Maybe for patreons, you could try a digital pdf version - to get feedback - of your edits first - even if just partial - might be the easiest way to get clarification. I don't mind alternate versions, but I like to have the original format too.

That’s the thing. There’s not a narrative reason for the events of 14 & 15 to take place simultaneously. We just wrote a Hammer side story. I think the passage of time would actually make more sense by going back and forth. And although the overwhelming majority is saying to leave it as is, I might pull a George Lucas and give people the Special Special Edition they never asked for. Get ready for digital rocks, people!

I'm generally for stories being as chronological as they can be unless the discontinuity is for a specific narrative purpose a la Westworld, but do whatever you like, it's your creation.

going to agree, leaving them as they were published works. Even though the re-arranged sequence would be more 'sequential' i dont think it would 'add' to the reading experience. The normal 12 13 14 15 leaves it like the original single issue publishing too, which a lot of people 'want' when they get trade paperbaks.

Gonna go with keeping it as is.
