The wedding was over. The grand hall had emptied, leaving behind only the echoes of toasts and wishes for eternal love. Precious gifts were tucked away in chests, and silk rose petals lay scattered across the marble floor. Now, I was alone in my chambers, illuminated by the soft glow of candlelight.

My heart was pounding too fast. I had to be ready. Tonight was my wedding night, and soon, Prince Edmund would enter this room. He expected innocence, as the crown demanded, but… no one would ever know that I had none to give.

I looked at myself in the mirror. I wore only a thin green cloak, barely hiding anything. I pulled it tighter around me, as if it could shield me from what was about to happen. Should I feel joy? Was it anticipation or fear tightening around my throat?

Footsteps beyond the door… The time had come.
