Mason scoffs, the stream of cigarette smoke wavering from his lips as he does so. “How do you think? I was pissed at Murphy. I can’t have anyone thinking I can’t do my job properly.”
Nate slides his gaze over to Mason from the chair beside him…and Mason frowns.
“What else was I supposed to feel?” he asks with a shrug though confusion tugs his brows down even further. “I don’t know. Maybe…”
“Yes?” Nate prompts eagerly.
“Hoping they’d let me tend to those wounds. I’ve got to take my chances to see the Detective naked when I can, right?” He chuckles deeply.
Nate sags in his chair, and lets out a long sigh.

I can't shake the feeling that for M, the constant thirst is something of a defense mechanism at times.
