Final card design

I decided the boxes to fill in your own date weren't really necessary; the simpler the better.

This monster's original concept was that you'd have to defeat it by pickling it in a jar, but then I though it'd be more interesting to freeze it, and then with the licking theme, why not go all the ...

Fakemon - ugly stink-wart

It's similar to some existing Mortasheen monsters, but this was an idea I had for a pokemon whose whole theme would be "grossness." There aren't a lot of pokemon canonically reviled by humans, yet in the real world we have a lot of animals people find ugly and creepy.

I figured this little guy...

Scrapped Wormbrains

They felt redundant with some other monsters, so I never used these two. The designs didn't feel quite "there" yet anyhow, though I still like the flesh-flower-nest, I'll probably use that for something sooner or later.

Bonus Arthropoid - Dobsonfly

Dobsonflies are large, intimidating flying insects that often freak people the heck out, especially the males, who have incredibly long, tweezer-like mandibles.

The male's mandibles, however, are much too weak to cause any harm, used only to attract females and gently hold them during mating. ...

Some semifinal monsters

The working title for the printable game thing is "Nightmare Fright Zone" but it's probably going to change. An even weirder, earlier one was "Homonculous Terror Party."

Some ideas I had for ways to defeat these monsters include things like:

-Placing the monster in the ...

Secret thing

This is a mockup (or maybe it'll just be the final style) for a printable Halloween game I might debut in a couple days.

It's like a scavenger hunt. One player would print the monsters and hide them around another player's home, and that player would have to find them, then defeat them ...

Secret thing doodles

I've had a heck of a time coming up with design themes for this thing I'm working on...I don't want it to feel too much like a rehash of my other stuff, you know? I think I'm aiming a little for a Silent Hill parody

Vampire - the Toyol

Another secret vampire I illustrated a couple years ago for the vampire book project!

The Toyol is a Malaysian spirit said to be the ghost of an aborted or miscarried fetus, which is summoned and enslaved by a magician in order to break into people's houses and steal money.

Thanks for another month!

I've had trouble uploading to Patreon during the day, but you can see last month's second Mortasheen monster here:

Yara-ma-ya-who

Another illustration for the book of vampires, even if this Australian monster isn't actually undead or anything.

I got sick, so I'm a little too weak and headachey to finish the rest of this month's new art (a Mortasheen and a journal are due!), but I'll try to make up for it with spec...

The upgrade to Infestoad evolved into its own monster, but still replaces Infestoad since they're still more or less the same thing.

More monster concepts

After browsing a huge number of kaiju and kaijin I was inspired to do some bipeds with powers that aren't too incredibly out-there.

I dunno if I'll use the gumby-like one. It's an idea I like, but it's already evolving into other ideas in my head.

Petrifeyes

Something I spontaneously sketched yesterday. First I was doodling a thing with big, warty hands, then the warts turned into eyes, then I thought it should have an otherwise eyeless body. Might ink and color the design as-is sometime.

Vampire - Jaracaca

Patrons only - from the WIP vampires book, the Jaracacas is a mythological vampire from Brazil taking the form of a snake, which feeds on human milk instead of blood.

Bonus Arthropoid - Jumping Bristletail

These silverfish-like insects are pretty common, especially where I grew up. I've tried multiple times in my life to raise them but they always die in captivity, no matter what conditions I simulate. Mysterious!

Early Professor Lithovermus

The first design and drawing of our new Bookworm friend(?) was rather hasty, and completely freehand with no sketch or real planning.

I didn't quite like the result, and redid him as you can now see in Awful Hospital:

Eyechedelic sketches

I drew these spontaneously the other night, and within hours, I'd finalized a new monster. It's never gone that quickly before, but I guess this one just seemed so cute and fun.
