Exekiss sketch
A concept for the Arthropoid, Exekiss, that I like a little more than the existing version. This looks a great deal more like an actual assassin bug, most importantly.

Balmer's relationships with others are a little complex
She still didn't think he was so bad
A recent Mortasheen suggestion was to base something on the fact that the Hero Shrew (Scutisorex somereni) has the strongest skeleton known to man, capable of supporting a grown human standing on its tiny, tiny little back.
So I immediately thought that'd be a tiny shrew-like monster wh...

A rotten little bone-eater

I posted this on tumblr once, but it's long buried and almost impossible to find now. One of the last comics I ever drew (not counting Awful Hospital, if you consider it a comic?) was a guest strip for Daddy Long Legs, where I tried to keep a similar tone of humor/dialog.
But, by the ti...

Another piece of art from the vampire book (currently in limbo), "Aswang" is a term used for a number of different ghosts, spirits and even just phenomena in several neighboring cultures, but in my (admittedly limited to English and thus not entirely reliable) research I found several references to ...

This is the pocket notebook page where Mosslet was born, but we also see revamps of the dragonfly monster, Apteros.
Apteros, as it currently is in the Mortasheen archive, just mashes together the nymph and adult stages of a dragonfly. This is what we might get if the two had separate mo...

This is a monster I was drawing in a dream once. I'm not sure its weird or exciting enough to really make into a full color Mortasheen creature, but I still like it. The hazy pupils were what really stuck in my memory for whatever reason.
Another monster whose concept grew around a punny name.
The "bathtub" part could close up, of course, into just this fat round mouth monster.
A sketch almost a year old for a monster with one of the worst names yet.
Still tweaking the concept in my head, but the body and glasses could split into two different monsters.
These poor little guys are too timid, too frail, and too herbivorous to make it in Mortasheen city. All they can really do is jump away really well!
Maybe someone can find a good strategic use for them, anyway...or one of them will just get tired of only jumping all the time and do some...

Some more years-old doodles of Fectoids for Mortasheen, most of which went unused. You may recognize the most prominent idea here as a knockoff of Baikinman, but I wasn't so sure I wanted any of the Fectoids to be humanoid.
It could always be a bioconstruct, but then, there are already ...

In 2013 I previewed three drawings for an upcoming book project about vampires, but while the art is pretty much all done, the book has kind of been put on the backburner.
Here's one of my favorite drawings from it, though, my interpretation of a Pelesit.
This is a crea...

One time, a small company contacted me asking if I might like to design a cute monster for their website. I don't even remember the company, some small startup job-search service or something that hoped to compete with Monster.com (hence the request)
They liked some of these but ultimately I ...

This was going to accompany Tori's blog, before I decided to give each blog a funnier "stock image" for every character. She's taking this in a filthy mirror she has in her surgical floor; you can dimly see the surgery ward background behind her, which we haven't gotten to yet!
The following Mortasheen monsters have had their information expanded over the past couple weeks!
Instead of other stuff I was supposed to draw, I draw nightmare-detail Dr. Phage for the latest AH page.
Taking a break while we move, then I'll be doing all the usual patreon stuff in the latter half of June!
A tardigrade! The Shuckle of Mortasheen. Well, *a* Shuckle of Mortasheen.
2015-05-23 01:38:50 +0000 UTC View PostI've been slower than normal to update stuff these last couple weeks, but that's largely because this is our LAST MONTH EVER IN FLORIDA. I've wanted to get out of this state for years, but now that I actually am, I find I have lots of friends and places I need to scramble to enjoy for the last time...

I remember saying these would be fast, lazy drawings, but every time I do one I seem to put a little more effort into it. This one even has several variants! The main, large specimen is modeled after an ABSURD fossilized larval stage for these bizarre parasitic crustaceans. I also said I wouldn't ...
