Early morning walk

It's a beautiful and cool morning here, and I was all alone on the walking trail.  In another hour this path will be filled with people walking six feet away from each other, and cyclists whizzing by.  I was glad to get out and enjoy the peace.

Just checking in!

Social distancing, and pacing in circles! There's got to be a little more to life, I just have to stay focused. I wanted to check in with everyone today, share how I am, and see how you are! Stay safe out there!

Here I am, social distancing.

Some thoughts, inspiration and hopes as I keep my distance. I hope that everyone is doing well, and able to stay home as much as possible! Stay safe, dear ones!

Should it stay orshould it go?

It's nearly Summah, and I should make a decision about how the basement is furnished.  Both options have pros and cons, but I probably won't be going to any public beaches or anything for a while.  Maybe I should just rock it fuzzy this year.  Opinions?

Body Shaming

Throughout the ages, the human form has been inspiration for art. I often use myself as a model for my own art. I want to share moments of my own personal experience and as a result, I create many self portraits. I hope that when you see my art you will relate to the emotion within the piece. Thi...

A Poem. The Dead, By Billy Collins

I took just a moment while I was out filming to record a pleasant little poem.  I hope that you enjoy it!

An update for 3-12

Just a short word on what's going on with me right now.  Thanks for watching!

Not done yet!

Well, it isn't finished.  However I don't want to bore you supporters with the tiny subtle differences that will be taking place over the next few days.  The next time you see it will be totally finished, but it's going to take a lot more work.  Tiny things that I can see as I stan...

Areola 51!

Time for some silly fun!  It seems that my nipples have been taken over by a hostile force from another planet!  They are glowing in an unnatural and alien way! Only click play if you're in the mood for something truly goofy.  And if you are, enjoy!

It's illegal for me to push this button!

Here is another fun project announcement from high in one of my hidden towers.  Sorry about all the wind noise, but at least the sun has finally come out!

A little here, a little there

I took the reference photos for this piece back in January. The leaves were thick and crunchy underfoot! The texture of those leaves took a lot of my focus as I worked today. Just to make sure my progress didn't get too muddy (it happens when my color palette starts to become a single color on th...

Today's progress!

It's really coming together! So many tiny, web like marks are bringing the thick woods realistic. I wonder how many of those marks I've made in this painting so far? Still not done, either! At night, when I'm falling asleep, I still see them. Forming behind my eyelids in a myriad of colors!

It's March! Another month begins in this wonderful year! I continued working today on the little details in the background of my painting! Creating the mass of branches, vines, and bramble takes a lot of brush strokes. I think it's making an effective impression, though! As I worked today, I real...

An Excerpt: The Old Man and the Sea

I recently completed "The Old Man and the Sea", by Hemingway! It was such a moving story! It provided my with so many visuals and thoughts.  In lieu of a poetry reading, I thought I'd read a bit from this beautiful story!

A little update on my reading.

I did a little reading and wanted to share it with you.  Plus it may lead me to a fun new activity for the Summer!

Devil's in the details

I struggled just a bit today as I began painting. My desire was to continue as I have been. Building up depth with layers of color. But it just wasn't working. I took a step back to think, and realized I'd reached a turning point. It was time to get meticulous! Once I began painting details, I b...

I got out of the studio today!

I went for a walk today.  It's important to take a few minutes away from any project and then return to it with a fresh perspective.  I was thrilled to see that Spring is creeping in nicely.  I'll be filming many more updates from here as the season progresses.

Today's Progress!

Everyday, I am thrilled to pick up a brush and work on this painting! It's such a big piece that I thought the progress and brush strokes from one work session to the next would be too minute to discern. I'm finding however, that the opposite is true. I'm far from finished, but it's been really s...

Time for another video update!

Here's the latest from the studio.  Don't adjust your sets!  I played with some special effects just a little to change it up a bit.  Enjoy!

Developing the figure! As I worked today, I got the details through the eyes. I continued to work on the background, too! I'm feeling really good about the progress that I'm making!

I began getting some color down on the figure in my painting! I paid special attention to perfecting the outlines. My grid will soon be completely covered by paint, so I have to make sure that everything is placed perfectly.

On the easel!

Yes! I've got some great depth and color happening! Texture will come as I get into the smaller brushes, but not yet. I feel like it's time to get some color down on the figure. I'm really enjoying myself!

A top free update in the studio.

I wanted to bring all of you up to date on how things are going and why I haven't been posting much the last few days.

I was happy to get back to my painting today! Adding very thin layers of paint, and building up depth slowly. I missed a couple of days of work over the weekend. Can you blame me though? I had an opportunity to visit the amazing live oaks on the coast!

I had the satisfaction today of applying the first strokes of paint onto my canvas! It's such a great feeling to be working on this scale! Painting is always meditative, but working on this size requires the whole body to be in movement, and it feels great!

A makeshift lighting rig

I've come up with a crude, but very effective system for lighting my work as I paint! Cloudy days have been challenging when it comes to painting in the studio. Sometimes, I move a piece to the light, but I've realized that with my new piece, I can't move it easily due to its size. With a combin...
