I hope that's not the case. It's not a perfect comparison (because some people regard it positively), but wasting a reaction on Scorsese's Cape Fear remake when the superior-in-every-way original was right there for the taking may have been a lesson learned.
I say it's not a perfect comparison because I've never heard or read anyone say anything good at all about the Manchurian Candidate remake lol.

Welp, I just added Seven Days in May and The Train to my own watchlist (I've seen the others).

Sadly, I'm sure you're right, and I'd much rather have them skip Manchurian Candidate altogether if 2004 is the only option.

When Frankenheimer was on his game, there were few better. Manchurian Candidate 1962 is a masterpiece!

Frankenheimer in the 60s was on an incredible roll - Manchurian Candidate, Seven Days in May, Seconds, Birdman of Alcatraz, and The Train. Christopher McQuarrie screened The Train several times before making Dead Reckoning. Critics have noted its similarities to Die Hard. IMO it was very influential on the modern action film. And would probably get like no votes in an action or war film poll here:)

Unfortunately I think they are more likely to react to the 2004 Manchurian Candidate since they are doing a Denzel series. And sadly the 1962 version is unlikely to ever win a thriller poll or an "old" movie poll(feels like Hitchcock is the only old director who gets a lot of votes in those polls). In general most here don't seem partial to older titles(like pre 80s), based on my observation of poll numbers, results etc.

"The Manchurian Candidate" by John Frankenheimer, a great film, and very controversial in its time, would be an excellent choice.
Trivia: in a four-year span, Janet Leigh starred in 3 classic films by great directors: "Touch of Evil" (Orson Welles), "Psycho" (Alfred Hitchcock), and "The Manchurian Candidate" (John Frakenheimer). She also found time in that span to give birth to a daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis!

It's basically brown brick with some blue and white, but it's for the local rowing club, not the Special Boat Service OR (Oar) the Special Air Service, for that matter. jk

The only thing wrong with Ronin is that it was given such an uninteresting name, no one knows about it. The real hidden gem.
