Awesome reaction! This episode was a game changer in more ways than one. I forgot how good this show was!

Some of the comments here are borderline spoilers. Probably not intentional, but still.

Turing is also credited with the "Turing Test." A test of an AI's ability to behave equivalent too or indistinguishable from a human being. Check out the movie Ex Machin or The Imitation Game.

Root called herself Caroline Turing...based on Alan Turing - computer genius who broke the enigma code.
Also did you notice the machine identifies her with a yellow square right from the start? Just like Finch and Reese and not with a white or a red one. That was a big hint that there's more to it π

I think season 1 is fantastic. But comparing it to the other seasons - it's just a warm-up π the relationship between reese and finch is my favourite part of season 1. And yes the machine is a character as well. βΊ

Thank you so much for a fantastic and fun reaction for season one's finale!!! I love this episode so much and so much happened in it!!!
I loved that you finally got to meet Root and that Fusco and Carter are at last working together with Reese and Finch!!!
Reese was phenomenal in this episode while he fought to protect Root from HR and himself from the FBI, then puts together that Root is the hacker who threatened Finch in the end with Zoe Morgan's help. And Finch is now in danger. Like you... I loved his line as he walks away from Fusco and Carter, then demands that the Machine helps him to save Finch in the very end.
You're absolutely right that the Machine is a character in of itself and a very important one. And you will continue to learn even more about it and Finch's relationship with it in the next season.
I can't wait for you to get to know more about Root too. There's so much more to come and I can't wait for you to begin with season two!!!
Thank you so much!! Until season two...

I will always love Season 1 because the future greatness builds from pretty much everything established here. You really feel Finchβs and Reeseβs relationship grow over the season. Whee it starts out more business like, the slow build to friendship is really impactful. Especially here when he straight up demands the machine help him find Finch. Which is crazy, because Reese doesnβt even know if that would work with the Machine. He just has no other options and is that desperate to find his friend.

Root comparing putting a hit out on herself to a trust fall is one of the funniest/most batshit crazy things ever. Also just noticed watching this that the composer plays "Root's Theme" quietly throughout this episode to foreshadow the twist. That's damn clever.

Gonna jump in just to agree with everybody else, not to take anything away from S1, but the show starts getting better and better from here on out.

Think of this like Fringe, only the quality continues to rise right till the end, rather than peaking in season 2-3.
