Finally caught up on this show, what a beautiful episode of television. Tragic, but so wonderful.

2023-02-04 19:40:18 +0000 UTCAs others have said - this episode is sad yes, but I don’t think it should be depressing. I literally cannot think of a better, more fulfilling life (and death) than that. Most people in the real world don’t get a life that good with an ending on their own terms. And yeah, not to spoil the game too much because I am exited for it, but this was all almost entirely done for the show. I thought this was fantastic.

2023-02-01 07:19:46 +0000 UTCI have never played the game but I heard from a few people that have and they said the game is different. The game plays Bill’s character as an example to Joel of how not to live your life as a loner. You can be prepared but you don’t have a main purpose. Whereas the show used Bill’s character to show Joel how to live. The letter in the show sums it up when Bill talks about how he and Joel are the same. They have to live and protect the person they care about. Again I haven’t played the game but I think that’s an awesome way to show the difference between the game and show. How to show the other side of a person. How a person can live to the fullest in a terrible world.

This Bill and Frank stuff can be implied from the game as the show runners clearly decided to flesh it out. But I think the real point in the show was the letter at the end, because you now believe every word Frank says, and understand how it can affect and influence Joel moving forward to commit. Also if you thought this was great, I recommend the mini series on HBO that came out last year called Station Eleven, had a few similar episodes to this.

2023-01-31 21:29:43 +0000 UTCThe game "tells" their story instead of "showing" us like this episode. There's other dialogue and some more gameplay that was skipped, but I like the choice they made for this. I never really liked the way the Bill/Frank thing ended in the game.

2023-01-31 20:10:53 +0000 UTCI've played the game many times. This episode gutted me like nothing since Six Feet Under (which you should watch, but I understand not feeling it would be popular enough). It's an episode I'll return to. It is beautiful.
