Red Sonja

Hey everyone, Red Sonja is finished!

Took me a little more time (like 2 full extra days) than originally planned, but hey, small armor are deciptively hard to make lol ...

... and I increased the canvas a bit to the sides because it didn't feel right to crop the sword lol

But hey, I loved the end result, so it was totally worth it! =D

Hope you guys like it!

Oh ok! I'm sure whatever you can manage will still be awesome.

Darrell G

yes, it's a simple layer to turn off =)

Lee

Boss๏ผŒhope have a noblood ver.

Peter Chan

That ia why she is so tough and intense. :)

Ric V

Thank you! Funny enough the nose being "broken" is a side effect of the shadows. If you turn off the shadow layer, her nose is normal. But I thought it was an imperfection fitting for the character, so I left it that way. I also had to keep an eye on how the colors worked, since their colors are similar, they need to be cohesive, but also be different enough so people can make out the detail and not become a "mass" that looks just one material. This type of armor is deceptively hard to do, because there's a lot of things interacting, different textures, reflections, etc to keep in mind. So each individual part of the armor took some hours to do. I also really love how she looks more "viking/barbarian". I'm not a big fan of giving a character like her a supermodel body "trying to look sexy". I think it diminishes a lot of her power as a character. She's a character that (imo) is mean to look sexy in a badass way, and not as a model. So it was super fun to paint this one and I really loved the result =D

Lee

my previous experience in doing armor certainly was usefull lol

Lee

thanks!!

Lee

thanks! I'm glad you liked them =D

Lee

thank you! =3

Lee

thank you!

Lee

they are very welcome. I love to hear what people think about the images =D

Lee

thanks! I thought it was very fitting for her to make it looks more agressive =D

Lee

I actually painted the scales individually, so it's easier to highlight individual scales and create that effect that they are on slightly different angles. I think she's the type of character that makes sense to be more beefy. Personally I'm not a huge fan of giving this type of character a "supermodel" body. I think something in between works a lot better

Lee

thank you!

Lee

thank you! =D

Lee

thanks! I think those small details help selling the idea =D

Lee

I still need to figure out how to combine stuff on the NSFW versions, because a lot of things are tied together in layers. So it doesn't turn into a nightmare to manage the file =o

Lee

thank you! I thought it was more fitting to her to look more "badassy" =D

Lee

thank you! I'm glad you liked her =D

Lee

thank you! I thought it was a nice "final touch" to have a small blood splatter on her =D

Lee

to be fair, I think mail bikinis would probably pinch a lot =D

Lee

thank you! I'm glad you liked it =D

Lee

Red Sonja was made for your style!

Well done! Love the final completed work!

Oh I have been very eagerly awaiting this and you definitely do not disappoint! ๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป Firstly, I really like the colours here, the cool greens and whites in the background really let Sonya's vibrant and warm colours pop, particularly that bold hair colour of hers. And as a lover of swords, I certainly appreciate getting to see even more of this beast of a hunk of steel ๐Ÿ’œ I really like all of the detail work on the pommel and crossguard with that large medallion at it's centre. The engravings and patterns look so good, especially with the little scratches too and I love the crossguard itself with some sections overlapping. The metallic textures look marvellous too and I especially like the actual handle as well. The warm leather colour with a mix of white edge-lighting on top and a subtle blue light along the bottom look very vibrant with great contrasts. And of course the blade itself is glorious too, I really like the two-toned colour, the details and all the textures throughout, particularly on the lighter coloured edge. And as for Sonya herself, starting with her gear, this mixture of scales, leather and furs are just perfect for an artist like yourself with an eye for detail and such a great skill with textures. I scarcely know where to begin which is ironic given how she's technically wearing very little but it's all just so packed with intricate detail. I suppose I can start with the fur which I can say all looks excellent, be it the little tufts of it peeking out from her bracers or the softer, lighter fur that lines her belt and scale sash. The textures are all gorgeous and I really like the little touches, like rips and holes in the material. The cape too is a great example of all of this, with gorgeous brush strokes, smooth gradients in tone and colour and great detail on the edges and where the holes are. I especially love the white edge-lighting as well which is a lovely contrast. Her various leather accessories all look exquisite as well, all of the straps across her arms and legs which all have their own edge-lighting, fraying, texturing and tinted lighting look so good! I really like the hints of leather over her knees which have all those same details and overlap each other very well. I especially like her belt which is packed with texture and detail with little chips in the leather and with the metal sections really popping against the warm colour as well as it's own white and blue edge lighting that also contrast really nicely. I won't go into detail on the rest of the leathers (apart from the gloves because that involves the hands) as I'll end up just repeating myself... more than I already have, but suffice to say you did a truly fantastic job on all of it! And since I just mentioned them, the hands+gloves look so good! The way you've drawn the fingers and thumbs as they bend, either gripping the handle tightly or closed over the top of the blade, is really well done. Looking at her right hand, the crinkles in the glove, subtle shine on the thumb all look very nice, with my favourite part being the white edge-lighting along the tops of the fingers, really making them pop! With her left hand, the foreshortening on the fingers and especially the thumb are very nice and once again, that cool edge-lighting makes it all even better! And lastly for her gear, the metallics! I really like these kinds of shoulder pauldrons, with these large, overlapping segments. The level of detail here is as glorious as I'd expect with the larger 3D shapes and patterns, like the spikes on the lips of each segment, as well as the various grooves and scratches in the metal, all of which has a really nice shine to it! The scales of the bra and sash look terrific too, very well detailed with all of those little overlapping pieces and I love the overall lighting on them. Like with the bra, having those larger sections of light on the centres of the breasts, smoothly transitioning out towards the shadows on the side and bottom planes, giving them their overall definition. And now truly onto Sonya herself, we got to look at that hair! It is utterly beautiful and so full of detail, I love all of the loose strands, the interlocking braids, the subtle shine to it and the overall contrast between the brighter section and the shadows running down her left side. The little metallic decorations and the white edge-lighting really pop too against the red, with the latter really accentuating the detail. Her skin textures and body are simply glorious! I utterly love her arms and truth be told, as much as I adore her pauldron and cape, I'm looking forward to seeing versions without them so we can really get a proper look at those muscles! ๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป From what we can see here, I can already tell they're going to be beautiful, with her left arm looking especially nice with the contrasting bright and dark tones, with this subtle blue hue mixed into the shadows to really show off that contrast. Where the chest/shoulder/upper arm all connect looks so good too with those overlapping sections of skin and muscle, with hard edges and grooves cutting through and then smoothly blending out into the skin tones. Her midsection is just wonderful too, the overall contrast between light and dark tones, also with that blue tint mixed into the shadows is so eye-catching and I particularly like all of the frontal plane changes for her abs, where all these tones and colours smoothly blended together. And oh my goodness... these muscular thighs are just... well, they're just freaking stunning ๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป The long, bright lines of lighting running through each of them, smoothly blending into darker tones on either side, with those dark and blue-tinted shadows just look so good! Really making their overall shapes pop, the additional whiteish edge-light on her right thigh helps accentuate that even more! And on her left thigh, I really like that section at the bottom with that hard edge rising up, dividing that area and making the tones ripple. And truly lastly, Sonya's wonderfully painted and detailed face! Man, you did such a great job here, her features really pop with this lighting! I love the overall contrast between her warm skin tones and these darker, striking shadows mostly on her left side, but then to make it all even better, you have these bright highlights along her right temple/upper cheek, at her furrowed brow and on her nose, that all really pop and contrast with the darkest tones. All the furrowed, crinkled detail around her eyes and upper nose are great touches and I do like that bend in her nose, I'm guessing it's been broken at least once, a fun detail to add for this kind of character. Though even for this more aggressive character with a broken nose, I still find how you paint them so cute and appealing, with the reddish tones and shine spot at the tip. Her lips are beautifully textures too and I love the shine spots, same with on her eyes as well and goodness they are just so striking! And lastly, you did an excellent job on those blood splatters with the bold colour, the feeling of it actually smearing across her and ending in globs of blood with their little shines giving that wet look. (Wait.. I got so caught up in other things, I never actually mentioned her breasts ๐Ÿ˜น. Well, the cleavage looks gorgeous and I really like the dark, reddish shadows on the inside of the right breast, really contrasting with the brighter, inner left breast, with the overall warm tones making them look very appealing) Truly fantastic, excellent work on this piece! So jam-packed with detail, texture and beautiful, vibrant colours and lighting! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ I can not deny, I am particularly excited to see the alternate versions of this more grim, brutal (but still beautiful) looking lady. (Also I just realised how long this comment is... sorry ๐Ÿ˜…)

She's so buffed OMG! I love more barbaric look you gave her! Her armor looks so great, especially the fur and leather. Oh and BLOOD and dirt are always welcome!

Arch

That is a good looking chainmail bikini, nice lighting on it too.

Kintoga

Just, wow

Daniel

As per your usual magic you have done an outstanding job!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘ She looks absolutely awesome!!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ Too bad Follywood doesn't like redheads anymore. *sigh*

Draven Shadow

I can clearly see the damage on the various pieces of armor, the torn cape, the piercing eyes, and her flawless body. You have done Red Sonja justice.

Will

Fantastic! Once again, I hope you keep much of it for the NSFW. Remove the chainmail, but keep the epaulet and cloak, gauntlets and leg straps.

Darrell G

Holy sh... She's so badass! The armor elements, the sword, her body, her pose, her dangerous look... Everything here is an absolute masterpiece!

SnakeEyes

Wow, this has an amazing amount of detail. The individual scales on the armor, each with their own angle of reflection for the sunlight. The leather and fur underpadding for the armor, a detail not many would think to add. I like the fur cloak/cape as well, it's thematic and acts as a nice backdrop to her form. It also acts as a bit of protection against the sword being held like that, preventing any accidents with the edge. As for Sonja herself, she's muscular enough to be realistic as a fighter without getting overly bulky. Just outstanding work here.

GBW

Love it. Turned put even better than I expected from the WIP.

Lucas Bechtol

Maybe that explains the fur and fabric lining.

SmetBart

Great work as always; the lighting and muscle definition are top-notch. The blood streaks are a really cool touch, and the detail and layering on the armor is fantastic. Another drawing, another parade of superlatives I guess. Cheers!

Jazzpha

Scale mail bikinis must chaff like hell

Ric V

That's pretty damned awesome ! Great job on one of my favorite redheads.
