Things are gonna get more random...

Hey all. It's been a little while since the last release and we're still a ways off on any major update however I've got a few new features in the pipeline for the next stage of the game. I'm hoping to put out some Patron-only preview releases for these features eventually but perhaps just to give you a tease today, one of the features in the works is procedurally generated battle maps!

One of the current limitations in the game is that there exist only a few dozen battlefield maps for the whole game. While I think they are generally good maps I have always wanted to add more. But, to be honest with you guys, I HATE making maps. I find it tedious and slow. I've tried to recruit map makers in the past but limited success. But to make the game really great I think we need a lot more map variety than I would be able to produce myself. Enter, the computer...

The screenshot you see here is showing a map that was entirely generated by code! Yes, no humans necessary. The map generation code that I'm building is capable of placing multiple layers of terrain, forests, paths, rivers, bases, and even procedurally generated cities! What's more, is it is very flexible and some using some base parameters you can create forest maps to desert maps, to winter maps. This means more variety in maps, more styles of maps, and more unique battles. In other words, there's going to be a LOT more variability in battlefields in the future!

Now the map generator isn't finished yet, but when I get it to a pretty functional state it will be you, the Patrons, that get first access to it. I'm hoping in the next few weeks that'll happen but we'll see how the coding goes. In the meantime hope this gives you a fun new feature to look forward to, and more to come soon!
