If you happen to still be looking at this thread, apologies I'm late to this Sub-Class request party, Mearls! (And great to see you've been able to get back in the saddle here after recovering from your illness and all of your travels!) Some spellcaster subclass requests: • Cleric — Hand of the Church: Political / financial schemer, inspired by the Borgia Popes weaving their webs of deceit and intrigue and rumoured to wield poison rings. • Druid — Recondite Waters: Attuned to and draws power from naturally occurring small and hidden bodies and sources of water, especially those connected with the underground, such as springs, aquifers, pools, grottos, and their associated flora + fauna. • Warlock — Lord / Lady of Revels: Channels arcane energy from the wild spirits associated with carousing, intoxication, ecstasy, hedonism, and transgressive art; Patron would be an entity who is akin to (or who serves) forces like Bacchus / Dionysus or Rakdos. • Wizard — Magister: Arcanist in the service of law — powers + spells are aimed at investigating crime, arresting suspects and outlaws, and imposing judgment and justice upon lawbreakers and tend to favour the schools of Abjuration, Divination, and Evocation. (Realized after writing this that the Law Mages of Ravnica's Azorius Senate in M:tG are a bang on example of this concept :P )

2024-05-21 05:15:06 +0000 UTCA Wizard flavor I've been thinking of... something of a "chemist" or Scientist wizard. Where their material components play a much more active role in their spellcasting. Instead of being an anchor to pull from the spell weave... the spell more literally comes from the materials. So Fireball spell is like a napalm or TNT like explosion. Invisibility... comes from a micro prismatic powder that bends light... Speep spell is a vaporized chloroform etc... I think of Tinker Gnomes in Dragonlance, for a crazy mad scientist vibe. Maybe there are tiny devices and machines doing some of the heavy lifting.
