Depixel Customizer Announcement

Customizer for Depixel and its add-ons was for a long time one of the biggest and most ambitious plans we've had for Depixel. The last week I had some fun programming this - an exhaustive online customizer, and it works better than I planned, so Depixel Extended users have good news - you will finally be able to easily customize its contents.

Nowadays resource pack customizers seem to be a very rare commodity, barely any exist in the wild. So, as an amateur full-stack web developer, I took on a challenge to create one myself.

History of Resource Pack Customizers

minecraftcustomizer.net was once the only place for resource pack artists to host their packs and make them customizable for users, but it suddenly went offline without any notice since Minecraft 1.6 update came out which introduced a massive overhaul to the game customization system and replaced texture pack system with, what we all now know, a resource pack system.

This was probably the reason for the website's closure, I can imagine how is it for a developer to think they have to completely rewrite the whole system. Nobody still made an alternative, so artists have to make their own for their resource packs.

What Is the Depixel Customizer?

• Customize Depixel and add-ons (and possibly other future projects)
• Edit pack description of each pack with a fully-fledged visual editor for formatting
• Edit pack format in case if Minecraft says a pack is "unsupported"
• Multiple alternatives per block with a preview, and the original beside for comparison
• Bookmark and share your presets (URLs might get long, URL shortening planned)
• Rapid pack generation (0.8s-1s)
• A download link available for one hour to share with others
• Convenient management UI for select contributors for adding and editing originals, alternatives, categories, and packs
• Automated data structure building when uploading new packs. Just upload a pack into our server and you're ready to add customization options to it (for admins)

Conclusion

Functionally the customizer is almost ready (still can't believe I can say this). Testing is required to make the system more robust and fluid.
Also, it obviously looks butt-ugly, just want to make sure I have all the needed functionality before I wrap it into a nice gift box to avoid those out-of-place-looking last-minute additions.

I will first make the customizer available only for Depixel Extended to test it out, as a lot of patrons complained about forced features they didn't want (some of them left solely because of that). If all goes well, the customizer will go public for Depixel and add-ons with all currently available alternatives.
