Membership Tier Updates
Added 2025-02-13 18:00:06 +0000 UTCHello all my lovely Patrons! Quick bit of news today: I'm going to be making small adjustments to some of my Patreon Tiers. It's nothing crazy, and for most of you nothing is going to change, but I still want to make sure everyone is on the same page.
So, as a quick refresher, these are the current benefits.
***
-Curious Cultist ($3 USD): Early access to chapters.
-Dark Devotee ($8 USD): Beta Reader status. Access to Rough Drafts to help polish up the story.
-Abyssal Acolyte ($15 USD): Extra voting power in polls and character creation prompts.
-Hellish Harbinger ($25 USD): Bragging rights!

All Patreon Tiers also come with matching access/status on my Discord server.
Now, I've been thinking about these benefits for a while, and I want to update the higher tiers just a little bit. The first two Tiers will remain exactly the same, and will not be losing or gaining any benefits.
However, I'm going to be removing the "Extra voting power" benefit from the two higher tiers. Why? Well, in all honesty, I don't run very many polls. I love running them, but the chance to do so doesn't come up very often. The only real poll I ran was when you all voted on the mascot for Aurelius University.
However, to make up for this, I'm adding the following benefit to the two highest tiers: Input on character creation for future stories.
So, what does that mean?
First and foremost, this is not replacing the Character Prompt posts I've run in the past. Those posts are fantastic for fleshing out my stories with unique background characters, and I love giving everyone the chance to pitch in when the opportunity arises. These characters often have minor parts with very little story impact. The most obvious example was when several of your characters showed up for a chapter in Blood & Chlorophyll.
This new benefit is going to be for characters that are slightly more prominent in the story. In the past, this was simply something I couldn't do because of how I structured my stories. In Book One of SaS, for example, the main antagonist was a member of the core friend group, and I had very specific ideas of who she was and how she acted. In essence, some characters are too important to surrender any amount of creative control.
However, Suddenly A Succubus is changing. The world is growing, and there's a bit more flexibility in the narrative. I'm starting to seriously plot out details for Book Four, and I've got some characters that need to exist, but I have a lot of flexibility in their exact details.
So, for members of the $15 or $25 tiers, you'll have the ability to offer suggestions for some of those characters. They might be slightly more important side characters, minor antagonists, or even major villains, depending on the story.
Additionally, the amount of input might differ depending on the character. Sometimes I need characters to look a certain way because of plot reasons, but often their looks don't matter. Maybe you'd like to see a character with a certain temperament, or someone who's wrestling with a specific issue that you think would be interesting to see in the SaS universe.
As a fantastic example of what to expect, here's something to keep in mind.
(Minor spoilers for SaS Chapter 35)
A bunch of students just got caught in the crossfire, and now know magic is real. Some of these students already have names, personalities, and stories, but many of them don't. These students are in a position to become recurring background characters, though obviously I won't say what exactly might be happening with them.
(Spoilers over)
Now, with all that in mind, joining in this kind of character creation might involve small spoilers depending on which character I'm looking for help with. I'll be keeping these spoilers small, obviously, but you might see a character appear in the story and go "Oh! That's the character I helped with, and Nyx asked me to come up with cool superpowers for them!"
Alternatively, if you have a character idea, but don't want that character to be a villain, I'm more than happy to share little pieces of information. People that go up against Amara in a fist fight don't always get happy endings, after all XD
Additionally, because of the pace at which I write stories, this isn't a benefit that's going to be coming up every chapter. There might be a big rush of ideas and conversation as I prep for a new book, then months of downtime because I no longer need new characters. The shape of every book is different, and I can't always foresee when I'll need new ideas.
With that in mind, if anyone thinks it would be fun to have some input on Book Four, I'm about to start seriously putting together many of the details.
I'll do my best to be clear about when I'm looking for different types of creative input, as I want this process to feel as fair as possible. If you're interested, and just jump to a higher Tier for a month of two, that's totally cool!
As always, feel free to drop any number of questions or comments on this post, or by shooting me a DM.
