Devil In The Waters, Book 3, Chapter 13 (complete)
Added 2020-03-14 00:00:03 +0000 UTCIt was driving him crazy to watch her so separate from them. And one look at her expression would tell you whatever it was she was doing didn’t have to do with work. The way she’d playfully run her necklace through her mouth. The way she would flick at the dangling pendant. Put the pendant in her mouth. And she was smiling. Any work text he ever got did not put a smile on his face. It was almost guaranteed she was talking to Devlin. She hadn’t made friends there. Who was that one who was her secretary—Tami? She wasn’t friends with Tami. Tami wouldn’t be making her laugh. It was Devlin. Devlin was the one she spent time with. So if this was a work text, and she was smiling, it was with Devlin.
And this was after he told her just a small slice of Devlin Stone’s meanness.
A month ago, before the reunion had ever happened, if you’d asked Kimmy what she thought of Devlin Stone, she’d say he was a turd. If she was feeling particularly feisty, she would say he was a piece of shit. But in the last month, all sorts of profanity came out of her mouth. She said shit all the time now. He’d heard her say fuck. That wasn’t Kimmy . . .
And now she was working for him. Now she was working for Devlin Stone. She’d got in a fight with the guy, got mad at him for being the prick he usually was, and they fought. Devlin pushed her down on the grass and got between her legs. Kimmy said he was hard. And now she was working for him . . .?
You’re so fucking blind, Josh.
Blind to the fact that he’d wanted this in some way.
You let Kimmy get close to Devlin because for some reason it’d hurt in a way you hate that you craved.
But now he didn’t. Not anymore. It was getting too real.
He’d never been the kind of man to stand up to his partner for fear she would think he was some sort of tyrant denying her freedom and will.
And that was why he assumed Kimmy’s always loved him. Because he was the kind of man she wanted. Now was it possible she wanted this kind of man? Look at her. Smiling.
And here with Susan and Simon, both of them honest and hard-working and pure people. Simple wants. Family. Grandchildren. Kimmy came from an excellent home. Sure, her mother had died when she was young, but her dad was a loving father. A hard driver, not somebody you’d want to disappoint, but not a tyrant. And that’s how Josh’d tried to be with her. But it didn’t get them anywhere. And now he was pumping the brakes, but this thing he’d somehow allowed had so much down force, barreling downhill on a snowy road, brakes locked but the momentum just keeping it plummeting . . .
When he’d told her that little blood blister of psychic hurt from his past, he’d thought it would seal the deal. Kimmy would return to him, come to her senses. It would be like ringing her bell. Snapping her out of the hypnotist’s spell.
Or was it possible he was that tyrant and din’t know it? This was jealousy in his heart. Jealousy drove men to harm and retard women for millennia. Was what he was seeing real, or was it his imagination?
What if Devlin’s masculine appeal was in your head, and that’s not what had Kimmy working for him? Maybe it really was the job. He had to admit, since she’d been to work for the last week, he’d never seen her more energized. That dark swirling fantasy part of him liked to imagine that maybe she was inspired by lust. Maybe some kind of frightening attraction to Devlin Stone. But was Kimmy really like that? She was always tantalized by challenge. Loved to succeed. Put tasks in front of her, she would break them down into their milestone goals, happily chugging until they were done.
It was a hopeful thought.
That his wife—his sweet and loving and very smart wife—saw through Devlin Stone’s veneer, placated him, humored him by laughing at his jokes . . . Maybe even like now, when they were just texting.
It was the job; it was the work . . . and secretly he knew it was also the reward. She wasn’t always such a money-minded person, but she did like this new compensation.
He stepped down, crossed the family room, Kimmy not seeing him coming, and when he was close and asked her if he would come along with her Pop and Susan, she jumped, pressing the screen to her chest so he wouldn’t see.
That simple action, that defensive jump, told him the bad news. And it was in her eyes, too.
Kimmy looked caught.
***
While his fingers and toes went cold, and his face drew down, sunken and chilled, he maintained protocol for the sake of Susan, and Kimmy’s dad, saying now to his wife, “Did you want to come along?”
And before his eyes, he could see color rising to the surface of his wife’s freckled cheeks. What had she been texting? She said, “Come along where?” Her voice was thin and quiet.
Then Simon joined them, shrugging on his light cotton jacket to go down to the chilly underground parking. Pop said to his daughter, “See your new car.”
“Oh, yeah, the new car.” Kimmy shut off her phone and put it facedown in her lap. “Yeah, okay.”
Susan was there, standing close to Simon. She said to Kimmy: “You like it? It’s good?”
“It’s comfortable,” she said.
Simon said to Josh, “It has good tires? You know, for the snow? . . .”
He said, “They threw snows in, and they keep them for her at the dealership.”
“Oh, that’s good,” Simon said, nodding, then nodding to Kimmy.
“I know,” she said. “I know. No, I love it. We had a great drive up here.” She ran hair from her face. She still looked flushed.
“Are you coming down with us?” He regretted the natural coldness in his tone.
Their gazes connected, and he saw trouble in her eyes—but then she shot him a puzzled look, recovering now from being caught, turning the tables on him, acting like she wondered what was wrong with him. She said to her dad: “Yeah, I’ll come down. I didn’t even get to eat my cake . . .”
Simon said, “Not wait for you all day. Kids and their phones . . .”
She said, “Pop, you said I could . . .”
“Didn’t say we would wait,” Simon said, playing at indifference as he headed to the door.
Kimmy said after him: “But could I . . .”
Susan smiled, joining Simon walking toward the door. “Come on, Kimmy, come on,” Simon said without looking back, “come take us for a ride . . .”
“Okay,” she said, “I’ll come along in a minute, you guys go without me.”
Josh said to her, “What’s going on?”
“Work stuff.”
“Are you coming down or not?”
“I’ll come down—just give me a minute.”
“A minute for what?”
She whispered: “The bathroom, Josh—what’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong, Kimmy.”
“You’re mad at me because I’m texting?”
He grunted. It was obvious. “Yeah, I’m mad at you because you’re texting.”
“I have to. It’s work.”
“We’re at your dad’s—we’re having lunch . . .”
“I have to take it. It’s my first week.” Now she rose, still pressing the screen of her phone face down against her thigh. “You guys go without me, I’ll just be a couple minutes. I just have to go to the bathroom first, okay?”
“Fine,” he said, “meet us downstairs.”
***
On the lip of her father’s bathtub, phone propped against a full toilet roll placed in the center of the toilet seat, she slid her hand down her unzipped shorts. She’d waited until she heard the apartment door close, and now here she was in her father’s bathroom like she was fifteen again.
Contact with Devlin was finished. Her arrogant boss would be engaged with his buddies, another bunch of suit wearing assholes, she was sure, drinking Scotch and getting hyped at the start of the baseball game, all of them with the best seats the Rogers Centre offered. Meanwhile, Devlin Stone’s newest acquisition was jacking off in her dad’s bathroom like it was high school. That’s what she’d been reduced to.
As her fingers slipped up and down her hot and wet folds, parting flesh, caressing back her hood and dabbing at her clitoris, she recalled the object of her obsession lit up on her phone’s screen a foot away from her.
The photo of Devlin naked, displaying for her that huge gorgeous cock.
Half hard in the photo, it was fully hard in her mind’s eye. Her fingers swirling, whipping pleasure through herself, recalling it in the cargo container. The feel of it in her mouth. The distinct pump shape of his large cock head; when it was wet, poised as if it would enter her, she squirted, was overflowing with wet and telling him to put it in her even though he didn’t wear a condom. The pills were probably already working (she’d lied to herself).
Devlin inspired risky—oh-so-risky—lust.
Now she was thinking of herself on the grass, closing her eyes, recalling that nighttime dark when she hated Devlin and wanted to hit him and he’d laid her back, got on top of her, and she opened her legs. He grabbed her there, between her legs, grabbed the crotch of her denim shorts, growled feeling the hot wetness trough the fabric, took his hard cock out, laid it against the inside of her leg. . . . Both of them had worked while wrestling, trying to get his cock inside her without taking her pants off. How hot that had been. How awful. Caught then, and still not deterred, they’d ended up in the bathroom together where Karina thought they were ‘working it out.’ The only thing they were working out was his mouth on her neck, and her taking her shorts down. Karina was there again, persistent, knocking on the door, as Devlin was just about to put it inside her.
She hadn’t even been drinking . . .
Now she was on her toes, bare feet on her dad’s bathmat, clicking wet sounds from between her legs, thinking what it was finally like to have him inside her—it didn’t count as sex—letting her know just the kind of domination a man like . . .
“Oh wow, oh wow,” she panted, eyes open again, scanning, searching, finding the upturned photo on her phone, the one Devlin had sent of his naked body.
She came, one hand in her underwear, the other hand over her mouth, eyes focused hard on the man she would cheat on her husband with. Only once, just once.
If only masturbating could have solved this. If only having him inside her one time would’ve quenched her thirst . . . If only the condom-covered Magnum-sized cucumber had done the trick. But nothing was chilling her fever. So do it. Do it and be done.
It was supposed to be already done. Technically, as far as her relationship with Josh was concerned, her having sex with Devlin could have transpired that last year of high school when she wasn’t even dating Josh. When she’d come back from Taiwan after she and Josh’d kissed, whatever it been between her and Josh had been laminated over . . . All their emotions that had bubbled to the surface stilled underneath a thin milky film. She still had feelings for him then, and maybe he still had feelings for her—but there was an unsureness. And neither of them’d pushed it.
And it was in that window of time when the first opportunity with Devlin came . . .
She clapped her thighs shut on her hand, trying to stop her own swirling finger from driving too much pleasure and making her cry out past her cupped hand. The hidden fear that if she moaned in orgasm, then stepped outside the bathroom, she’d find Susan had hung back to wait for her. Susan then knowing that her boyfriend’s daughter jerked off in the bathroom during a family lunch.
She sat for a minute until she calmed, and her breath returned to normal. She dried between her legs with paper towel, straightened her underwear, flushed. Retrieved her phone, washed her hands with lots of soap and hot water, and hustled out to meet Josh . . .
***
At last, movement behind the reflection on the condo lobby glass windows. A figure approaching, height and thinness of his wife.
He was in the front seat of her new Nissan Leaf, air conditioning on, Pop in the passenger seat, Susan in the back. Making small talk for almost fifteen minutes now. If someone had to go to the bathroom, and it was going to be a number two that would take a while, it would’ve been nice to get a heads up.
He had the distinct feeling she’d pushed him off so she could keep texting with Devlin. I’ll catch up. Yeah, right, he leaves with her dad and Susan, she’s right back to texting again with Devlin. Doing that thing with her necklace in her mouth, smiling at her phone, smiling at Devlin’s words, being flirty. It was an awful feeling.
All the impending sexual dread that he for some reason enjoyed up till this point was squashed now, seeing that hidden exchange between his wife and Devlin. Sure, he could be wrong. Maybe it was Tami. But it fucking wasn’t Tami.
Kimmy was acting flirty like that while texting Devlin Stone. The worst guy in his life. So, no. This couldn’t go on.
As the door swung open and Kimmy hustled out to join them—dressed in her pleated shorts, striding long bare legs, feet in her shiny loafers—he got out to greet her. Over the top of her new Leaf, he gave her an expression to let her know how he felt being made to wait so long. He said, “You all finished now?”
It faltered her, and her quick steps slowed. He held open the driver door for her, letting her drive so he could get in the back.
“Josh, I had to go to the bathroom,” she said in a low whisper as he got close.
“Great,” he said, “let’s get going, okay?—show them your car . . .”
Kimmy’s face flashed sadness, then mild disappointment. But most importantly: guilt. Maybe she would finally get the message. Smarten up.
He’d distinctly told her the kind of guy Devlin could be, and she disregarded him. Disregarded him and then let things get worse. He kept her eye as he backed to the rear door, opened it, threw himself in to sit next to Susan. Forced a smile on his face.

2020-03-16 11:02:29 +0000 UTCOh shit, okay. Yes, I know the movie, sorry, I was picturing it as a bigger storyline. I saw the remake, and I've watched the Sam Peckinpah one many times . . .

2020-03-16 03:43:47 +0000 UTCI also enjoy more details about what happened at the reunion direct from the source, and more backstory about high school. Kimmy is hinting at something that planted a seed back then, we'll soon found out what.

2020-03-16 02:11:57 +0000 UTCOk, late to the party but outstanding stuff again, KT. I have fallen in love with the feeling of seeing things like Josh catching a subtle guilty move from Kimmy coming back from talking to Devlin. I love being able to see that so vividly because of its realism (I dont care that this is the only word that I know to describe your work, there are so many ways to be realistic anyways lol). That feeling Josh felt as is heart dropped in that moment was magnificent. Kimmy sneaking away for a jill session was a coronavirus level fever dream (I'm topical), the cherry on top was how Josh and Kimmy conducted themselves afterwards. Kimmy trying to play it cool but looking guilty, Josh upset knowing something is going on she isnt telling him, but knowing now is not the time to deal with this at her father's, get it together Kimmy and be present. You're a treasure, KT!

2020-03-15 23:28:33 +0000 UTCI could be wrong about the date "The Getaway" 1994 is a movie with Jennifer Tilly as the wife. I don't know why I thought it was an older film. I found the clip on PornHub title "Jennifer Tilly in The Getaway". There are other PG clips on youtube. Oh as I writing this just found the 1972 version "The Getaway" Steve McQueen, Ali Macgraw and Sally Struthers(All in the Family) plays the wife, Dabney Coleman(Mean boss in 9-5). There was unfaithful or OVERLY faithful wives in both movies as the wives use their bodies for influence in both!!!

2020-03-15 23:19:09 +0000 UTCagreed.. I believe KT has even admitted as much, after all KT is a brand with a following that probably has certain expectations.. You exceed those parameters and you risk alienating an audience that isn’t easy to acquire thanks to Amazon and other publishers views on erotica in general. I’d even go as far as say there are women who are doing it to husbands who don’t like it at all, but for one reason or another can’t leave the relationship.. I’m thinking like public figures with secrets etc.

2020-03-15 21:30:41 +0000 UTCHaha the speed of KT’s replies on comments sometimes makes me wonder if they’re constantly lurking here! PS KT please give us a heads up on that smashwords book :P

2020-03-15 21:30:40 +0000 UTCI don’t recall a movie from the sixties or seventies as I wasn’t alive yet. But the scenario seems awfully like one that is “the getaway” staring Alec Baldwin that came out in 1994. It was one of my favorite late night skin-a-max movies I’d watch as a teenager.

2020-03-15 21:25:28 +0000 UTCAs a student and lover of sleazy cinema (especially biker exploitation movies of the late-sixties and seventies), I NEED to know what this movie is. NOW! If this movie exists we all need to watch it. I have a book I already wrote exactly like this that I plan on releasing only on Smashwords because of its inherent dubious-consent.

2020-03-15 21:09:52 +0000 UTCI'm nearly 100 percent sure KT self-limits. I'm also 100 percent sure there are real bitch wives out there who truly disrespect their husbands, make no bones about it, and the husband loves it.

2020-03-15 21:03:13 +0000 UTCIt depends on the couple and whether not they really love each other. I mean REALLY love each other.

2020-03-15 21:00:17 +0000 UTCThere was a movie back in the late sixties early seventies don't remember the title. The wife and husband are take hostage by a band of bad guys. At a motel I think. the wife ends up screwing one of the bad guys and the husband has to watch. She totally goes over to the dark side belittles her husband while F...ing the bad guy. I don't remember whether it started as a rape and she changed or that she just found her husband to wimpy because he didn't standup to the men with guns! Husband ends it with suicide. Anyone remember the title? I tried a search but no success. I hope Josh doesn't go that route!

2020-03-15 20:48:55 +0000 UTCAs they say reality can be stranger than fiction. So yeah I’d assume there is a wives out there doing more than KT would even imagine including in her story.
Chinookfan72
2020-03-15 20:30:35 +0000 UTCI've made no bones about what happened in the past here. From that angle, I've got a lot of insight into the mindset of somone who cheats and I've got first hand experience about what it feels like to be cheated on. Some of our experience is appropriate here, but the vast majority of my wife's experience is not. I was never humilated and I never confronted my wife until she absolutely could not deny anything. Will that be what Josh does? Probably not. It's gut wrenching and way too close to home for me. I've long ago gotten over our situation and I've got the green light to talk about whatever I want. My wife is a good person, above all. It's too close to home because while I'm over it, such things like listening to a song can remind me of how I felt. I just shake it off, no biggie. I don't know what I'm trying to say except that while I know it's fiction, I'll be willing to bet real money there are wives who can be absolute bitches and rub their husband's noses in being bullied. We've read several stories where the husband's bully becomes a factor in a marriage, but none--absolutely none-- have hit as hard this one. Ultimately it's a good thing, but right now, I dunno.
DavidnDaria
2020-03-15 20:03:32 +0000 UTCExactly.. if everyone agreed on everything and there was no conjecture on what is happening next or critique on what just happened, these comments sections would be dead. I like to think having an active comment section is helping grow the community as long as we are all civil.
Chinookfan72
2020-03-15 19:46:34 +0000 UTCInteresting...I got your first comment and this one by email. You are right about the card...I did not remember it correctly but Kimmy's defense wouldn't change a lot. Don't think there is a big difference in our view except on liking Josh or not. Wouldn't be any fun if everyone agreed on everything. And of course I am not advocating a shorter story...these comments are a modern version of cheering or booing the characters in the Saturday afternoon movie without knowing how it all is going to come out. Kinda fun.
TF
2020-03-15 19:31:08 +0000 UTCAs for the other stuff that has happened in the story I personally don’t think it amounts to anything. Josh can be upset, sure, but it’s about his interpretation of her body language etc. It comes off as super insecure to me. As I said previously his hesitation to challenge Kimmy is rooted in trying to not look weak (Josh’s words not mine) in front of Kimmy. But by not addressing the elephant in the room, he is in fact left with addressing minor issues, which overtime I feel is going to get very annoying to Kimmy and make her see Josh as insecure (exactly what he was afraid of happening). Honestly, I can’t wait for it to happen either. I’m completely on board with Kimmy leading the humiliation train to wherever KT is willing to take it. At this point it’s too late for him to address the elephant in the room, he had his chance and let it go buy, so I’d suggest he not bring up petty grievances. I doubt Josh in the story will take my suggestion as Him bringing up the petty grievances helps the story.

2020-03-15 19:26:47 +0000 UTCYes, KT is brilliant! This story overshadows many other stories in this genera from her and other authors.

2020-03-15 19:24:01 +0000 UTCLooks like I deleted my own comment when I was try to edit a typo. My comment really wasn’t anything I hadn’t said on Glauc’s thread. Ultimately though the one issue with Kimmy reply to the business card is she said Devlin gave it to her at the reunion she said Devlin wasn’t there.. Devlin would have no idea where she put it.. She was caught in a lie that Josh could have caught her on, or at least pressed her more..He didn’t..I also think Josh should be more open about his issues with Devlin historically than he is.. You are married for 8 years and can’t open up to your wife about your issues. Especially before you go to the reunion and will have to see Devlin.. Again this is erotic fiction and ultimately Kimmy and Devlin are getting together, the way Josh is acting is understandable, but I don’t like it. If I was KT would I change anything.. Absolutely not! the overall direction of the story is great and my issues with Josh doesn’t detract from the story.. I don’t think anyone needs to like everyone in the story for the story to be enjoyable and questioning a characters actions doesn’t mean they aren’t reasonable. In fact my favorite KT series is Chelsea hates Libby and I dislike Ben probably more than any character, outside of maybe Max, in the entire KT universe.
Chinookfan72
2020-03-15 19:13:31 +0000 UTCI've found the best erotica is the stuff that hits you in the gut. While I like the corruption a character it not saying doesn't give me a gut wrench too. I'd be a good candidate for a study on why I love this kinda erotica. Is it my way of dealing with being cheated on in the past? When my first serious girlfriend cheated on me and I found out it sickened me to thing another dick had been in there and mad a deposit. Now I can't think a more exciting situation than going in second... Is this a coping mechanize? It would be fun to see the why.

2020-03-15 17:51:45 +0000 UTCYeah I certainly took it as just a robust discussion. I too worry KT might get discouraged over some comments so I’m going to clarify since I might be coming off as negative or against the story, which actually couldn’t be farther from the truth. I too am enjoying the direction of the story, and agree Josh’s decisions are completely understandable, they just aren’t decisions I’d make so my empathy for Josh goes down. Frankly this happens in almost all KT’s long series and allows me to enjoy them more than if I liked the husband/boyfriend.. So KT if you are reading this please don’t take any of my criticisms as issues with the story cause that is not their intention.

2020-03-15 17:41:18 +0000 UTCI'm in agreement with you Kimmy is the evil "Galactic Emperor Palpatine". She is manipulating Josh and all those around her. No, it's tough to see how someone who claims to love Josh could be so callous and selfish towards him. The above is just a way that the story could go that would keep Josh in the dark doubting his suspicions. This story is a Josh mind F%&K. I don't see a need to have Devlin taunt Josh. Kimmy is doing a better job than Devlin ever could. It's the hidden rot that is slowly eroding his sanity. In the US this story might end with a mass shooting in a Law office. There is no positive in the future that I can see. If KT massaged this a bit she could possible turn this into a romance novel $$$. I'm still suspicious of KT's involvement with Nissan! In separate schools she berates Subaru. In this story the Nissan Rogue(I couldn't find the Canadian name) is the perfect vehicle for transporting your drunk husband home from a reunion. At $100k+ Mercedes roadsters suck not enough room to properly F in. The 2020 Nissan Lief is the perfect vehicle for the eco concision cheating wife. She can speed off for passionate trysts with her studs without the added guilt of destroying the planet. Look at the back seat plenty of room for a late night quick in the gym parking lot! Vinyl seats provide an worry free surface for those inevitable drips. Last but not least is the quiet stealthy ride. You'll be able to sneak home late without awaking the neighbors or your sleeping husband.

2020-03-15 17:27:29 +0000 UTCAnd to add a little levity... Without F1 happening for the next couple of months, there's an E-race with some current and former drivers happening... it's not that bad! :) Social distancing, E-race style. Y'know, KT's brilliant. Right? I mean seriously brilliant. KT's got me thinking, "I can't read any more of this story... " Remember Maggie and me? I think the thing that's different is that I know Kimmy is going to bang Devlin and that this is a cuckold story--KT's said as much. I think what the tipping point for me will be just how Josh's humiliation is handled. He's going to be humiliated, but to what degree? Will he completely become the wimpy, snivelling little cuck we've all read about? Will Kimmy become a Manus Dare type cuckoldress or worse? Daria doesn't really care, she just likes KT's writing and while she knows I'm on the fence with this, she's going to read it. That's fine by me... she read Maggie way before I could finish. Aww Fuck! KT's brilliant.

2020-03-15 16:52:18 +0000 UTCClean panties: "Gosh, Josh, really! I had a small accident, OK, and had to change. I threw the others out as they were soiled and yucky. What is this anyway?.............etc." "But they were clean Kimmy." "Josh, I only wore them about an hour so sure they looked clean. Now cut the shit!" "Kimmy, these didn't look new." "I give up! I carry a clean pair in my purse just in case!" Kimmy goes into the bedroom and slams the door and Josh walks away whipped again. OK if he manages to invade her phone (not really all that knowledgeable at the ways of doing so) then it's ball game over. But, Kimmy, being Kimmy, will probably have made her phone well nigh impregnable by now.

2020-03-15 16:31:51 +0000 UTCIs this upsetting you? It doesn't seem to me much different than discussions over the past few months... Might be a difference in tone interpretation? Tone in plain internet text is hard! Honestly, I feel somewhat compelled to argue for how good the direction this story is going is, that I like the bullying (frankly I think it should go further and that the HS memories from Josh should be directly about Devlin and not flunkies), that Josh's actions are understandable even if you don't think you'd do the same - I do worry that KT reading these comments might feel discouraged sometimes!

2020-03-15 16:25:02 +0000 UTCIn this story, I think there's only one way Josh can become the bad guy--that's if he's caught with a hard-on while being caught spying--and even then it's not really being a bad guy. The fictional bad people in this story are Amy, Devllin, and Kimmy. Kimmy, if she does the deed, and is not one-and-done, is in our eyes, the worst of the three because she knows how Josh was bullied. The Bullied angle is one we can't ignore. It makes this story fall into the "we'll see" category and is rapidly becoming not erotic to us at all. And that's to KT credit that KT draws that kind of response, for us, it is what it is. It should continue in the direction KT sees fit without thought of readership opinion. Seriously.

2020-03-15 15:45:14 +0000 UTCBeing part of this form is money well spent! I so enjoy everyone's perspective. Someone bought up the possibility of Josh spying earlier. That's a move that is open to him now. What if he spies and Kimmy spots him? She doesn't acknowledge she's caught him and plays it cool and goes home...(that would be so frustrating). Or she could excuse herself from the meeting and confront him. Kimmy confronting Josh at the hotel could make things more interesting. It would have to be discrete she wouldn't want a scene in front of the clients. It would sure make Josh the bad guy. The jealous husband following and spying on his loving wife(sorry Josh no more BJs for you boy). Here is a good twist perhaps Devlin and Kimmy do the deed earlier before the meeting? Knowing that getting together after would make it harder for Kimmy to excuse her late return home. In this case Josh is going to question his distrust? Kimmy may still catch him spying and has the option of confronting him later or keeping the knowledge to herself(knowledge is power). I'm hoping either way she is sore and uncomfortably seated in her eco friendly Lief all the way home to Ajax... Thoughts? Hey KT is this story sponsored by Nissan!

2020-03-15 15:22:31 +0000 UTCTF, you have that right wrt the business card. What about the clean panties from the other night? And when does Josh invade Kimmy's phone?
Donkatsu
2020-03-15 14:30:13 +0000 UTCChinhookfan72: You put a lot of weight into the texting and business card as evidence that Josh should twig to. I did too at first. But look at it this way keeping in mind that only we, not Josh, know what went on. To continue the “conversation” when Josh presents the card to Kimmy. ….”Kimmy, Devlin texted me and told me I would find his card in the drawer so what actually did you and Devlin do?” “Nothing, Josh, I told you, he brought up an offer of a position in his company. When he was leaving, he gave me his card so I could easily get back to him if I were interested. He SAW me put it in the drawer. Probably he’s just being an asshole. You know what he is. Anyway, who exactly do you believe, me or him?!!” And so on leaving Josh to walk away with his tail between his legs because he knows it is exactly something Devlin would do to bully him and now Devlin has made him piss off Kimmy. So Josh really doesn’t have any hard evidence; however, all the little things are building up and maybe he will challenge Kimmy. Given their two characters, he’ll still lose.
TF
2020-03-15 13:54:33 +0000 UTCI'm late to the party. Fires are breaking out all over this post! I just wanted to add that Kimmy seems to be FAR TOO proud of how sneaky she thinks she is, am I wrong? “I have to. It’s work.” and "I had to go to the bathroom" all while she was almost rubbing one out on her dad's Lazy Boy (probably...) Her dismissive attitude toward Josh's tone and even her father calling her out (to a point) about how rude she is being and how little she seems to be bothered by anyone else's thoughts on her behavior. If Josh had any balls... I guess if Josh had any balls this book series would be over! *** Sooooo never mind that thought, instead I ASK ALL OF YOU! *** Does this particular event ever get brought up and will this dirty laundry see the light of day? Meaning: will anyone else find out besides the parties intimately involved? (Friends with young daughters? Dads? Others you might think of that I'm not recalling right now...)

2020-03-15 08:58:50 +0000 UTCyou are probably right about book 4 though.. She said chapter 5 was the midway point, and now we are up to chapter 13 so the end of this book has to be close.. If she includes as much of Monday as I hope I could see that day taking 6-7 chapters alone plus a couple chapters to wrap the book up from there so we are looking at 20+ chapters if Monday is included in this book.
Chinookfan72
2020-03-15 04:29:34 +0000 UTCthis is the part where the author decides if it works or not. It might not work out for him, but I’d respect more. For instance I’m just thinking how Tommy from Happy Endings would handle being Josh in this story. That being said, from a story perspective, Josh being the way he is makes for a better overall story.

2020-03-15 03:21:49 +0000 UTCThis might be something you disagree with in the fundamental KT ethos - this has come up in discussion before and I'm loathe to paraphrase since I don't have the direct sources in front of me, but it's a fundamental trope in KT stories that certain men can have sexual power/status such that the female lead’s attraction to them overcomes basically anything. This is present in almost every KT book. In a way it's one of the big thematic throughlines of all the KT books.

Glaucon
2020-03-15 03:13:23 +0000 UTCPeople do cheat. That's not unrealistic.
Glaucon
2020-03-15 03:04:05 +0000 UTCAs unrealistic as you think it is for the husband to throw away the relationship, I think it’s just as unrealistic for the wife to throw away the relationship as well. She doesn’t get the formal job offer until a week after the fingering so she has no idea what the job is, how much she’d get paid or if was even a serious offer. So the only reason she would continue contact is because of a sexual nature, which if the marriage is as strong as you say I’d hope she wouldn’t disrespect her husband like that. If she does disrespect the husband I think he’s foolish to stick around. If it was any other guy I could see your point but there is way too much baggage between Josh and Devlin that Josh is well within his right to ask her to break off ties to someone she says she doesn’t like too.
Chinookfan72
2020-03-15 03:03:02 +0000 UTCAgain, I don't think he could stop it, and I don't think it would be especially realistic for Josh to blow up a decade long marriage before anything happens because Kimmy takes this job over his protest, but yeah we can agree to disagree haha. Divorce is an ugly, complicated, drawn out business that emotionally hits people like a death in the family; divorce as a preventative measure BEFORE anything bad happens is not something I can say I've ever seen before.
Glaucon
2020-03-15 02:25:02 +0000 UTCWe’ll just have to agree to disagree.. By bringing it up at least he gives himself a chance to stop it, or leave before it happens. Wether or not it works is up to the writer. I just want to say while Josh bugs the crap out of me I’m not asking KT to change him. I am really enjoying the series And my dislike of Josh allows me to enjoy the cheating more than if I liked Josh.
Chinookfan72
2020-03-15 02:11:29 +0000 UTCRight but the fundamental thrust would still be "I don't want you working for him because I don't trust you" - there is no perfect path for Josh here. Interestingly, there was an episode that was basically this scenario on the TV show Modern Family a few years ago, with the wife taking a job with the husband's rival/bully, despite the Husband's protests. He did address his concerns with her beforehand, and she didn't take it well (because the rival/bully talked up her skill, basically exactly like Devlin here) and took the job anyway. My point being, I don't think Josh could've stopped her even by bringing up his concerns before she took the job - Kimmy would be defensive, say the job has nothing to do with Devlin and is just a job, besides she'll hardly see him anyway, and of course you can trust me Josh what are you even implying? I doubt it would have accomplished or changed much, frankly, except for making Josh look even more isnecure.
Glaucon
2020-03-15 01:43:35 +0000 UTCYeah, important to keep in mind it’s erotic fiction. Allows me to push that evil Kimmy angle. In real life I’d be running for the hills and the divorce lawyer LOL. KT deserves a lot of credit here as the lack of communication between Kimmy and Josh could easily be real. That she can use it to stoke the tension in an erotic story that has a laughably unrealistic premise like “my wife screwed my HS bully” just shows the level of talent we are dealing with here. In that context, Josh is a really nice guy. He’s also a total wuss and deserves what he’s about to get. AA indeed.
CSH
2020-03-15 01:21:16 +0000 UTCSure in a literary context Josh doing nothing allows for a more robust story. However a scenario where Josh “confronts” Kimmy about the text messages, it doesn’t necessarily stop Kimmy and Devlin from having sex.. It just changes the dynamic a bit. And for clarification when I say confronts I don’t necessarily mean it in a negative context. josh wouldn’t even need to presume anything happened sexually. Josh could make it all about how he doesn’t want Kimmy to socialize with Devlin because Devlin bullies him every time she does.. He could then go into more details about Devlin bullying him in HS etc.
Chinookfan72
2020-03-15 01:16:14 +0000 UTCYou can't forget that we know a lot (A LOT) more than Josh does. If he "confronted" her about this and nothing was going on, he just seriously injured his own marriage by basically saying to his wife that he doesn't trust her. Also, at the end of the day you have to remember this is erotica. Would you rather read a book about a messy divorce over some flirting at a reunion with no sex in it? I know I wouldn't.
Glaucon
2020-03-15 00:55:20 +0000 UTCGlauc if you confronted your wife with text messages from your high school bully about how he fingered her in your house and then left his business card as proof and she still went and worked for him, you are telling me you’d stay with her? I can say I would not. And if Josh decided to stay with her then I hope he doesn’t complain when the inevitable occurs.
Chinookfan72
2020-03-15 00:48:02 +0000 UTCOr, Kimmy's still working for Devlin (because she's a grown person and is legally allowed to make decisions without her husband's approval) and their relationship is even more riven with antagonism.

Chinookfan72
2020-03-15 00:39:47 +0000 UTCIt's hard to give up on someone that is so integrated into your life. I've told the story before of my first very serious girlfriend we were talking marriage a serious relationship, we both were 22 yo. She was my first sexual partner, I was not hers. I had a job opportunity in Ecuador and was planning on being gone for 1-3 months. I came back and she admitted to cheating with in a week of me leaving. This a very hard to take and I tried to fix it. It was not fixable! She just wanted to startup date others again same as before we meet. Thank the great universal deity! Best thing that happened to my life till I met my wife 3 years later. BUT! at the time because of my immaturity with relationships it was the end of the world and you'll do anything to try and fix it. You're in a weak position and you can only come off sounding and acting weak. You have no power to sway the other person. The only way this works is for Josh to sit down with Kimmy and say it out calmly "look Kimmy know that something is going on between you and Devlin". "Wait, let me finish before you deny it." "Show me your text from last weekend". "No? then I guess that is the end of us". OR "I need the whole truth here Kimmy, I'm willing to be understanding if you give me the truth now". Josh would have to deliver this in a very controlled manner to have it work. Having ZERO tolerance for any manipulation of the facts. This is his only option to prevent her from going forward with Devlin. He has to be ready to walk out, if his conditions aren't met. IMHO he needs to walk but he won't because he doesn't have the experience/confidence to walk away. Kimmy will walk before he does. Josh, will be a whiny and annoying to Kimmy. this marriage is entering a death spiral. Josh options are to confront and walk or ignore the problem and hope it works itself out.
RCH
2020-03-15 00:39:04 +0000 UTCSo right now I don’t believe there is any way for Josh to stop what’s happening.. Over the course of the series though I do think Josh could have come forward with Devlin’s text messages regarding the fingering and then the texts that lead him to the business cards and requested Kimmy no longer associate with Devlin. It doesn’t stop them from fucking, but Kimmy wouldn’t be working for Devlin right now and wouldn’t be able to openly communicate with him.
Chinookfan72
2020-03-15 00:35:57 +0000 UTCYeah, agreed TF.
Glaucon
2020-03-15 00:35:45 +0000 UTCCripes, Josh is the victim, why does he get blamed for Kimmy fucking around? Put the onus on Kimmy and Devlin. Nothing Josh can do is going to stop Kimmy for her "one timer".
TF
2020-03-15 00:34:53 +0000 UTCYeah - no I definitely meant confront her with his suspicion of her being with Devlin. I agree that anything less than that is a waste both in real life and in fiction. Whining to himself is indeed his current choice and that just sucks. It’s interesting to think how those different courses of action look to his wife. She might prefer he keep his suspicions to himself but she might also respect him more if he straight up asked her and forced her to lie. Those paths have different implications for his future opinion of himself as well. For the story either path can work. Interested to see where KT takes it. I say let Josh resist a bit, so Kimmy can slowly break him. Maybe then he gets out, maybe he doesn’t.
CSH
2020-03-15 00:24:40 +0000 UTC1976 HS class it was a norm in my day to give the girl a good night kiss at the door. So it was a date but you weren't dating. So the kiss before summer was special to Josh but not to Kimmy so much IMO. What was their sexual status? Were they both virgins or not? If Kimmy was even thinking of Devlin then(Amy's influence I suspect) she wasn't a virgin I'm 99% sure.
RCH
2020-03-15 00:14:13 +0000 UTCtrue, but Josh isn’t even confronting her about wether something is going on between Devlin and Kimmy. He confronting her how she’s being rude for leaving the table, and how she shouldn’t work for Devlin because Devlin was a bad guy when he was 14... I’d have respect for Josh if he asked Kimmy if anything is going on with Devlin and her, sure she can say no, but at least he’s working towards a so,union to his problem. My analogy for Josh right now is he is in a job that he is under paid. So he’s got 3 options 1) go to management, voice his issue and try and work it out, however everyone sees fit 2) Leave and find another job 3) do nothing and just keep complaining to yourself.. Josh is doing option 3 and option 3 is the only option I take issue with.
Chinookfan72
2020-03-14 23:50:52 +0000 UTCJust as an afterthought- I’d say all Josh wants from a confrontation is reassurance from Kimmy that she’s not doing anything. If she gives him that she can pretty much do whatever she wants because he desperately wants to believe her. If it comes before the hotel encounter he will have jumped the gun and it will essentially prevent a confrontation afterward when she would have a lot more to explain. If Kimmy reassures him now she can get away with a lot more later. A confrontation would allow him to convince himself. She gives him reassurance that she isn’t screwing Devlin, he feels better about it, then she goes and screws Devlin. What’s better than that?
CSH
2020-03-14 23:42:10 +0000 UTCKT certainly deserves praise that is for sure. The fact she can create a character that gets under my skin like Josh, yet I still read every chapter as soon as it comes out is a testament to how well the story is written.
Chinookfan72
2020-03-14 23:41:53 +0000 UTCYeah, I agree that he is afraid to confront her. In the end though that is because the confrontation comes out one of two ways, she denies it and he caves and looks like a fool, or she admits it and he either loses all self respect by staying or he walks out. Either way he loses something and he doesn’t have the self-confidence to make the tough decision. KT deserves a lot of praise here for putting these people in a real-life situation. There’s no easy way out. I expect Josh will whine and be passive aggressive and Kimmy will just see Devlin as all that more attractive. You’re right -Josh is totally a bitch and eventually Kimmy is going to treat him like one.
CSH
2020-03-14 22:59:40 +0000 UTCGoing to say the same as Chinookfan72. Unless this turns into something like him packing up and staying at a friends or such it'll just be filler. That wouldn't happen because Kimmy would put brakes on her hotel dalliance with Devlin. She would do that because she doesn't want to get caught and still care enough about Josh. I"M ALSO JUST LOOKING FORWARD TO THE ACTION!
RCH
2020-03-14 22:51:41 +0000 UTCYou are correct that Josh can’t stop Kimmy and Devlin from doing whatever they want to do, but he is in a place where he can decide if Kimmy’s actions are part of his life or not.

Glaucon
2020-03-14 21:31:14 +0000 UTCsure Josh is afraid, afraid Devlin might be trying to fuck his wife. However, Josh seems more afraid to look weak to his wife than he is afraid of his wife fucking Devlin because every time he has a chance to confront Kimmy he either immediately folds, tells a watered down version of the truth, or pulls some passive aggressive act. If he continues down this path I guarantee Kimmy is going to get annoyed with having Josh whining and complaining about her every move. This complaining is eating away at what Kimmy sees as a positive for Josh. She doesn’t need his money, he isn’t the best looking, he isn’t the most driven, he doesn’t fuck her the best.. So really if he now becomes an over analyzing whiner, what is left as a positive for Kimmy not to turn completely to the dark side? Kimmy is a bitch for cheating, but Josh is also a bitch for knowing it could happen and doing nothing to prevent it.
Chinookfan72
2020-03-14 21:30:41 +0000 UTCIt's interesting to me how much of the discussion over the past months has been about what Josh should've done, whether or not he's "strong," how he should be acting, what he should be saying, presupposing an objectively "correct" course of action. But I don't think there was ever really a way for him to prevent this between Kimmy and Devlin (short of not going to the reunion in the first place).
Glaucon
2020-03-14 21:19:44 +0000 UTCJosh is afraid. Now, with this chapter, he is afraid with good reason. He's seen how Kimmy acts with Devlin. If we're to believe what KT wrote, it no longer turns him on. He's pissed, too. Worse, Kimmy blew him off and went to the bathroom. If Kimmy starts to humiliate Josh, it's going to be hard to take. Really hard to take. Yeah, it's fiction.
DavidnDaria
2020-03-14 21:06:27 +0000 UTCIt seems to me Josh’s reluctance to open up to Kimmy for the fear of looking weak is a self fulfilling prophecy. By not opening up and getting to the root of the issue, he is staying shallow and, in my opinion, coming off as whinny, insecure and jealous. It’ll be interesting how Josh’s current attitude will affect Kimmy when she undoubtedly reconsider’s Devlin’s “what do you see in him” question after Devlin rocks her world. As someone who is hopping Kimmy jumps on the humiliation bandwagon, I think Josh’s attitude will only help Kimmy pick up those reigns and starts to steer herself.
Chinookfan72

2020-03-14 19:33:54 +0000 UTCFor an old fogey like me, if your up to kissing you are definitely dating and if it's high school, it's usually short term (talking 1950's here). I'm thinking Kimmy picked the one she wanted and now seems to regret not picking Devlin then (at least for "one time"!!)
TF
2020-03-14 19:27:21 +0000 UTCI'm ready for Devlin to take what he wants and for Kimmy to escalate her obsession. I could read about her debauching for chapters. Curious how KT will work the humiliation angle with Josh without a total blowout. Also wouldn't mind Josh finding another woman to bare his soul to. Maybe even someone who would develop feelings for him and the feelings becoming mutual. Interesting that they are planning a dinner meeting with others. I wonder if maybe a little humiliation of Kimmy might be in store? I am so addicted to this story.
Wess
2020-03-14 19:13:02 +0000 UTCWere they actually dating in high school or was it just a short term thing, they shared a kiss then she left for the summer and when she got back whatever was budding between them had died? My guess is Josh is the one who initiated the resumption of dating.
Chinookfan72
2020-03-14 18:45:34 +0000 UTCthat’s certainly part of it for sure! However, I genuinely don’t see the need of another confrontation unless it’s going to be a big blow out. Otherwise there is already a small confrontation in this chapter, the story can easily cu5 from Josh sulking,y getting in the back seat to Kimmy sitting in a bar waitingfor Devlin.
Chinookfan72
2020-03-14 18:43:39 +0000 UTCWow! Kimmy has a bad case of it. Despite all the Josh dissing (ha, it's the Josh defender speaking), the pressure in the pressure cooker is building up and I think he's gradually coming around to realizing Kimmy really doesn't want a hard working, kind person like her father and will finally pop. Of course, maybe that's what Kimmy unconsciously wants...having him storm off freeing her up to indulge in the "one time" sexual romp without restrictions (like getting back Monday night) figuring she can reel Josh back in later if she is so inclined. And I wonder about the time they split up way back when...who was the one who initiated the resumption of dating?

2020-03-14 17:22:37 +0000 UTCI’m fine with Josh losing the confrontation, but the confrontation has to be something bigger than the text message. Josh already said his piece about that and what more is he going to add? Bringing it up more just makes Josh look insecure, unless he actually provides context for him legitimately feeling that way. My concern is he isn’t going to do this and we’ve already seen him confront her and fold, I don’t need another round of that. I’d rather just recap it quickly and get on with Monday then.
