This song started as a day dream, wherein a future mankind could freeze time, and then live in that frozen second of time.
At first in the dream, it seemed a great thing. No hunger, no or sickness would effect you. Age would not chase after you. Bills would not accumulate. Your possessions would not wear out. Your pets would not die.
But at what cost?
It soon became a metaphor for people who try too hard to live in the past, they forget enjoy the "now", and how much those people give up.

Life in an Instant, has me feeling we'll stop this moment and there's just no further growth, someone who's content to just let things be.... it's a soft melody, almost like a lullaby. The Story That Never Starts - The contrast begins here as it's more vibrant, it clearly has a more intense rhythm and beat. Emotion wise, someone who's realized they haven't done anything with their life and no long wants to be content with just letting things be... get out there and live, not frozen, unmoving.
