Firstly, we have an update on transcripts. Our last transcript update was set to be the final one: however, unfortunately, we need to share an additional one. As with all of our transcript updates, this is also available on our website.

Update Nineteen was to be our last update as we are technically waiting on some third-party DNS server to launch our transcripts along with some other improvements to the website we can talk about more later on.

In the name of transparency, we've brought these updates back. In this instance, it was genuinely no fault of our team and again we apologise for last week’s delay. We did believe they would launch last week. Transcripts may still launch at any point this week. However, if by Friday they have not launched we will make links and distribute them on our social media.

Update 21/02/2022:

We are waiting on transcripts to release. That is a purely technical hosting related issue and we anticipated they would launch last week.

We have currently completed Stellar Firma transcript reformats. Though there may still be minor tweaks after release mostly for consistency rather than for corrections.

The Magnus Archives S1, S4 and S5 are complete. S2 and S3 are partially complete but should be completed within the week. We will release as is but there may still be some tweaks for consistency etc.

Rusty Quill Gaming is fully transcribed though some episodes will need some further work and further checks post-release.

Finally, we were delighted to see the return of RQ Network show, The Milkman of St Gaff’s last week. In the first season, a naïve Howie arrives on the strange island of St Gaff’s. He soon discovers that the island has a foreboding secret – but what will season 2 bring? We were lucky enough to get an interview with the creator of The Milkman of St Gaff’s, Christopher McClure.

1. Tell us who you are and a bit about your podcast

I have a background in political philosophy. I’ve taught at a few universities and I wrote a book about Thomas Hobbes. But I also wanted to scratch the creative itch, so I got into podcasting. I live in Toronto. But St. Gaff’s is supposed to look a bit like Newfoundland.

The Milkman of St. Gaff’s has a lot of inspirations: Thornton Wilder’s play, Our Town, which also has a milkman named Howie; Nigerian folk tales about spirit children that I read about in Ben Okri’s book, The Famished Road; Sting’s album, The Soul Cages and the Canadian comic book, Reid Fleming, the World’s Toughest Milkman.

But at its heart, it’s a story about a very odd world and a very odd guy with a horrible past trying to find his way.

2. What got you into podcasting?

I love the fact that there aren’t any gatekeepers and that you can just put out whatever you want by yourself. It’s really liberating to be able to do that. I also happen to love audio engineering, so fiction podcasting allows me to combine storytelling with creating fun soundscapes.

3. What are you most proud of about The Milkman of St. Gaff’s? What should we look forward to in season 2?

I’m most proud of Howie as a character. I wanted to tell a story about a guy who’s sort of a jerk and not very smart, but still somehow sympathetic. They say you shouldn’t write unlikeable characters or characters no one can relate to. I think I’ve gone pretty far in terms of creating a character that many people really seem to hate, but still want to hear more about.

As for season 2, they say that in film, the protagonist has to change or learn or develop somehow, whereas in TV the characters just stay the same, more or less, forever. There are exceptions, but that’s the accepted wisdom. With podcasts, I’m not sure. I’ve heard people say they hope Howie will grow. I’ve heard a lot of people say they hope Howie will suffer some horrible punishment. So will Howie change or mature or develop in season 2? Who knows. He certainly wants to. But there’s many a slip ‘twixt the cup and the lip.
