Deviser
Added 2023-05-01 15:00:53 +0000 UTCHi folks,
We hope that you’ve all had a wonderful week!
Firstly, a quick apology for the late Enthusigasm episode. EGSM Robot Wars is available for Knights and Nobles to listen to now, after scheduling gremlins meant the Friday release time was missed.
Next up, a huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our stream at the end of last week! Jonny and Alex had a blast reading The Magnus Archives fanfiction for the first time since the show release, and we loved sharing some of the talented creators in the fandom! In classic Alex and Jonny style, there were also many fun tangents, including a discussion of what a Pokémon/Magnus crossover could look like. If you weren’t able to join us, the VOD is available to watch on Twitch now, and will be uploaded to our YouTube channel on Tuesday. Thanks again to our Kickstarter backers, who made this stretch goal stream possible. We’ll be sharing the full list of fanfiction stories shared shortly.
As well as the delayed Enthusigasm episode this week, we’ll also be sharing some outtakes on Friday! Helen will be joined by numerous guests for some fluffs, mistakes and lots of laughter. In the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing the final episode of Enthusigasm season 3, which will be on the topic of ghosts. However, as we have previously discussed in a newsletter, we’ll be shortly sharing a brand-new behind-the-scenes series to accompany Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later, similar to the Below Decks episodes of Trice Forgotten.
We’d also like to share a quick note that everyone who ordered RQG dice – including those who ordered them as a Kickstarter add-on – will have received an email from our manufacturing and distribution partners, Dice Dungeon, to update on when delivery can be expected. If you’ve ordered the dice and haven’t received an email, or need to update your details, we recommend you reach out to Dice Dungeon directly as soon as you can.
Finally, we’re delighted to be welcoming Deviser to the RQ Network! Deviser is a brand-new show from creator of Malevolent and Dice Shame, Harlan Guthrie. A sci-fi horror, Deviser is darker in tone that Harlan’s previous work. All episodes are available to listen to now, wherever you find podcasts or on our website. Ahead of the show’s release, we chatted to Harlan to find out a bit more about him and Deviser.
Tell who you are and a bit about Deviser.
Hey! My name is Harlan Guthrie, I've created Malevolent as well as Co-created Dice Shame. I edit, do sfx, act and write most all of my projects! I don't enjoy long walks on the beach, but I enjoy hanging out in the sand and wading in the water.... not too deep.
Deviser is a culmination of a number of ideas that were rattling around my brain in January. I was driving home from work and thinking about fatherhood, having found out that I would be having another child later this year. I also was thinking a lot about the ethics of artificial intelligence and how it's taking over everything. As I drove home, I considered these and by the time I arrived in my driveway I had the pilot for Deviser outlined in my head. It was a few weeks later that I decided to make it into a full show and within three months the show was done - from start to finish. It's a show about all these themes mashed up with my love of dark horror and sci fi.
What got you into podcasting?
Circumstance really. I had lost my job due to covid and my now wife said I should try my hand at telling stories in a way that was feasible (movies are expensive to make) so I tried my hand at Audio Dramas and it clicked!
What are you most proud about Deviser?
Everything. I think this is the best representation of my acting, editing, writing, sfx work and overall production ability at THIS point in my life. Next year? who knows. maybe this will be old news. But this, as of now, I gave my everything.
Every episode of Deviser is available to listen to now. If you enjoy it, please consider leaving a rating, or writing a review, as this is the best way to support a new show.
As well as welcoming Deviser, this month we’ll be adding two more new shows to the Network – we’ll let you know more about that in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, How It Ends, Afflicted and NIGHTLIGHT move to pastures new. We bid them a fond farewell and wish them the best for their future podcasting endeavours. In RQ Original news, Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later production continues to go excellently. The final cuts for episodes are starting to come in, as we are creating a buffer of finished episodes before we announce a release date. However, you can expect an update in the next month.
Have a good week all!

Hell yeah, Below Decks was awesome and Outliers too — I really enjoyed the format of that, where they had interview episodes after each story episode. ND brain loves bonus context.

2023-05-01 21:49:57 +0000 UTCFanfic showcase was so cool :0 really interesting to hear Alex and Jonny’s perspective on fandom in general, and also this fandom in particular. I can’t remember what it felt like not to know all of the fanon and tropes😅 Been so long. At least one of my favorite fics made the list which was so cool!!! Good job to whoever had to comb through all the submissions! I totally did not notice missing Enthusigasm episode in all of the livestream excitement so this was an awesome Monday treat. Friday’s looking great too — I love outtake episodes more than anything in the world, they’re so lovely and SO funny every time. More excited for Cry Havoc with every passing day, I hope everyone working on it is getting excited for debut! And……. new Network shows new Network shows!!! I’m dying to know! Deviser was an absolute hit, I knew I was going to love it but I was still so impressed. I hope everyone is leaving excellent reviews.

2023-05-01 21:46:03 +0000 UTCI’ve already said this on the Invictus server (and in the review I wrote on Apple Podcasts) but Deviser is excellent and I have not stopped thinking about it since yesterday. Huge congratulations to Harlan on his brilliant work! I had so much fun at the fanfic showcase, and I’m excited for Cry Havoc and ghost Enthusigasm and shiny math rocks!

2023-05-01 19:31:52 +0000 UTCThe fanfic read was SO fun, congrats to all writers and thanks Jonny and Alex for the... professionalism? :D at least the genuine energy and respectful enthusiasm they put in. Absolutely lovely and so fun. Ghost! Ghosts! Ghosts! Looking forward to the BTS series for CH as well; Below Decks was so interesting, I'm really glad RQ has decided to do these sort of in-depth making-of commentary and academic follow-up series. And congrats to Deviser for its smashing debut! Lots of my friends have been eagerly awaiting it and had an excellent time ravenously devouring it today.
