Something to Listen to

The finale of Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later released on Thursday - we've had such a good time working on this historical sitcom. If you haven't listened yet, now is the perfect time.

A goblet of red wine has been spilled across it, and a marble bust is lying on its side. To the right is a pile of Roman coins. In white capital letters is the title: Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later. The subtitle is: a Roman Comedy.)

Cry Havoc follows the new leaders of Ancient Rome after the death of Julius Ceasar. They're doing a pretty bad job. Mark Antony and Gaius Octavius can't agree on anything and Rome is out of money. Their only option is to turn to Rome's most powerful ally for help: Cleopatra.

Then there's Gaius' sister, Octavia. She’s meant to be a respectable Roman lady, but she drinks too much, sleeps with other women, and – most scandalously – she likes theatre. Her company stage comedies making fun of her brother – and a new actress has caught her eye...

Protocol Previews

On Sunday 22nd October, we’ll be sharing the digital premiere for The Magnus Protocol – a preview of the pilot episode. Paid subscribers at the Knights and Nobles tiers will be able to watch a video right here on Patreon. The digital premiere includes the pilot episode, an extract from our Making Of documentary, and an exclusive Q&A with Alex and Jonny about the show. For Rusty Citizens and free members, there’s still time to upgrade your pledge this month so you can see the premiere too. Fans who donated to the Kickstarter at Archival Assistant level or above will also receive access to the digital premiere on Sunday. We do ask that you do not share spoilers or clips of the pilot online or in any digital spaces, as this isn’t fair to those who are waiting until the January 2024 release to enjoy the podcast.

Admin aside, we are so excited with the return of Magnus, dipping our toes back into the horror genre just in time for Halloween. In this, the inaugural episode of The Magnus Protocol, Sam starts a new job at the Office of Incident, Assessment and Response.

After this digital premiere, the rest of the series – including an updated, fully mastered pilot episode – will be released on the public feeds in January 2024.

Exciting new merch collaborations

Over the last few months we’ve been working on some really special merchandise items. While we have our Redbubble, Teepublic and Crowdmade stores for more standard items, such as t-shirts, stickers and mugs, we have really loved producing more special, bespoke items for fans to treasure.

You may have already seen our Rusty Quill Gaming dice from Dice Dungeon (there are a very small number of these sets still available on the Dice Dungeon website), and we are so excited to be running a pre-order for another set: The Magnus Archives dice set. This beautiful set features and standard set of polyhedral gaming dice and a very special, extra-large d16 “entities” dice, with symbols for each of the fifteen fears referenced in The Magnus Archives.

(Image description: A photo of a set of dice and a large black presentation box on a white background. The dice are dark green. As well as a standard polyhedral set there is also a much larger dice with icons on, such as a a mask and a web. The design on the box mimics a tape player at the top, with a green web on the front and the words “The Magnus Archives”.)

We’ve also just launched the Jon & Martin The Magnus Archives perfume, created by Sucreabeille (who you may be familiar with from their scents for Old Gods of Appalachia). This completely custom-made scent, created in collaboration with folks here at RQ and in a hand-engraved bottle, represents the comfort of a cup of tea on a bad day, and the smell of an archive of papers, statements and old books. You can find out more about the perfume on Sucreabeille’s website.

Thanks so much once again for being here on Patreon with us. We will be updating here every month or so with a free update, however if you’re interested in a weekly newsletter, ad-free podcast episodes, and all sorts of bonuses, do consider upgrading to a paid subscription. If you’d like to browse the available content, you can check out our Patreon Content Explorer on our website to get an idea for what’s available at each subscription level.

Hi! Posted this on the Kickstarter as well, but just in case---I can't seem to access the episode premiere! I got my password from Backerkit, but each time I enter the password, nothing happens and it asks for the password again. The browser just keeps refreshing to the same page, and it happens across all the browsers I have, even after clearing the cache. Would really love to listen to the premiere but it seems like I can't :( Any help would be appreciated!

It will be shared weekly from January 2024.

“After this digital premiere, the rest of the series – including an updated, fully mastered pilot episode – will be released on the public feeds in January 2024.” Sorry, I just want to clarify the phrasing here - is this saying that the FULL REST of the series will be posted to feeds in January - as in, all at once?
