Updated: Israel-Hamas Flash Report 24NOV23 10:00 PST - 24 Hostages Released - Cease-Fire Update

Overnight, more cracks were forming in the cease-fire agreement, according to Egyptian officials, leaving the team unsure if the cease-fire would happen or last.

Egyptian officials reported that Hamas caused the 24-hour delay from Thursday to Friday because they were refusing to provide the first 13 names of people to be released, were refusing to exchange the hostages through the International Committee of the Red Cross, and were refusing to let the ICRC visit the other hostages for wellness checks.

The cease-fire went into effect at 07:00 hours local time and has held. There have been no reports of any serious violations. Several hours later, Israel reportedly relocated the 150 Palestinians set to be exchanged from a list of 300 to facilities closer to the exchange point in the West Bank.

At 16:00 hour local time, 13 Israeli hostages, including four children, were released to the ICRC by Hamas. In addition, ten Thai and one Phillipino citizen were released. Among the Israelis, six pensioners (elderly) ranging in age from 72 to 85. Yafa Ader was the oldest living hostage, and she was part of today's exchange. They are all from the settlement of Nir Oz.

Three adults, ranging in age from 34 to 54, are related to four children ranging in age from 2 to 9 years old.

Among the released was Hanna Katzir, 72. Last month, Palestinian Islamic Jihad claimed she was killed in an Israeli airstrike.

At the time of publication, 39 Palestinian prisoners have been transferred to the Beitunia checkpoint at the West Bank. A list of their names, ages, and criminal history has not been released. As part of the update, we can confirm the 39 Palestinians have been released. The first day of the cease-fire agreement has been completed.

On paper, if the rest of the deal stands up for the next three days by releasing another 11 people, the cease-fire theoretically will be extended another 24 hours. We don't know why Hamas changed course on the transfer and accepted working with the ICRC as an intermediary.

There is some more information about what is included in the rest of the cease-fire deal. One hundred thirty-three thousand liters of fuel will be transported into the Gaza Strip for the next four days, along with 800 truckloads of humanitarian aid (200 a day).

Comments

Crazy to think that Gaza strip is less that 1% of area Russia occupied in Ukraine

Never underestimate the power of Qatari bankers.
