The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) Full Length Reaction!

Comments

I saw this in the movies at the time. I think I was 16 or 17. I can assure at the time it was not cheesy, it was horrific. Even though a 1974 was not all the gore needed to satisfy 20 somethings today, it was the implied horror of the meat hook. It was very loosely based on true events. The character Leatherface was influenced by real life killer and grave robber Ed Gein. Gein was called the Butcher of Plainsfield (Wisconsin) and is known to have robbed bodies from graves and taken trophies, such as skin and bones, to decorate his house. This movie had people screaming. People were also much more open and trusting back then. Hitching a ride was a real thing and lots of kids and young adults did it without a 2nd thought. I did at with other kids at 12 or 13, 1974 was just a different world. And when you say these kids did dumb things that you wouldn't do, just think of all the real life victims of Jeffrey Dalmer and many other serial killers. But this movie started the genre, it was 4 years before the original Halloween movie. It was absolutely terrifying for teens and young adults in 1974 :)

Sally was the original Final Girl. She lead to Sydney Prescott and every other later F.G.

Not a true story. They made that up to make it scarier.
