Dressage controls: Opinions?
Added 2024-10-12 17:19:45 +0000 UTCI need some feedback on the dressage controls before releasing the dressage lessons at Plainbelle, in case thereβs need to adjust the controls.
Those of you who have tested out the dressage commands (you can study them from the βRoad to Grand Prixβ book that opens after completing the basic lessons), leave your feelings about them in the comments of this post!
Comments
That will be the case! The horses at plainbelle will be dressage horses. So they will be easier to get in the bit and keep it longer without needing to halfhalt

2024-11-10 22:08:27 +0000 UTCLove the dressage control but would hope in the future that the more you trained the horse the long and easier it becomes to keep it on the bit.

2024-11-05 04:00:57 +0000 UTCYeah! Practice is a big thing here and that is what i love about it βΊοΈ But i also feel with people who are just not good at it and frustrated, so i think difficulties would be nice to have.
Lyrea
2024-10-29 16:53:53 +0000 UTCI think this could be a horse lvl feature, like a less trained horse needs more subtle cues and loose the roundness fast while a experienced well trained horse will hold themselfe long without cues and dont need them that ofthen

2024-10-28 15:12:26 +0000 UTCFunny i never had a problem with the side pass, but with the extention sometimes π (If i extend walk/trott and try to ride different forms with it - and i am absolute sure to just short klick!! - my horse will start cantering π I tried in the trainiNg lessons to trot in extention in some exercises wonder why that is, i would love to sit together and se how different people do stuff to exchange tipps π

2024-10-28 14:59:53 +0000 UTCI have no problem to maintain full roundness most of the time so i cant realy empathise, but i understand that many people are alsolnot good with righm at all, so it would mabye a good idea to have different difficulties for that too, like the striding system?
Lyrea
2024-10-28 14:59:12 +0000 UTCI think that the controls are phenomenal! However I do think that the leg yield is a little too complicated simply because it's extremely difficult to maintain the appropriate roundness while also giving the subtle cues to yield. So I concur with the other commenter who suggested having a bit more time between needing to 'check' the horse to keep it in frame, I feel that this would allow for the performance of the leg yield more seamlessly.

2024-10-22 16:46:24 +0000 UTCI really love the dressage mechanics, super challenging and fun! However, I have to agree that after a lot of practise, keeping the horse on the bit is very hard and a bit frustrating. I think making the roundness stay a little longer or using a different key so it's a bit more possible while still controlling the horse. As I find the horse keeps dropping from canter to trot etc. One thing to keep in mind is with other suggestions is that properly trained dressage horses shouldn't end up too easy to keep on the bit as the challenge is still great!

2024-10-21 21:43:09 +0000 UTCAs I dressage rider myself, I really have no complaints!! Very realistic and it feels just as hard as in real life! The only thing Iβve found is that itβs hard to keep the horse forward or going the same pace whilst trying to maintain its frame/roundness, and that you have to switch between the W and S key a lot. Thatβs my only issue, but everything else I really enjoy! Iβve been waiting for an accurate and in depth dressage mechanic for ages, so overall, Iβm incredibly pleased! <3

2024-10-19 00:05:06 +0000 UTCAgree, that's the point of dressage :)

2024-10-18 15:20:33 +0000 UTCI just tried out the dressage and I loved it! The main thing would be that the moves themselves are hard to maintain, which I suppose is part of the challenge but it would be great to be able to "lock in" a move on an easier mode? A well trained horse should be able to follow rider aids when asked once perhaps?
M
2024-10-18 13:11:15 +0000 UTCI LOVE it! And I really like that you have to figure them out and that it takes some skill and practice to master.

2024-10-18 09:36:12 +0000 UTCI love this! I hope you don't make any changes to it, it's hard but when you take a moment to learn it it's pretty simple and realistic and thats the point of the game, right ;)
Official Fiera
2024-10-17 20:30:11 +0000 UTCThey are hard to master, but i figured thatβs the point? And i actually really like that. Hopefully we can get dressage tests in the future, and the moves being hard to master will really do good when it comes to the tests! The only thing i have to add is that the canter chance is really sometimes not happening? Even though i time it. Also this might just be a problem with my mouse, but sometimes it doesnβt registrer the mouse clicking when i try to use leg, someone know how to fix this?

2024-10-17 12:22:29 +0000 UTCIt's probably because I play a lot of other games but I really like the dressage in this version, it make it realist. Dressage is hard like that, you need time to nail it in real life but I do agree that a more forgiving horse or a difficulty easy, hard and realist should be implemented to the dressage too, like for the jump for casual player and not hardcore gamer at the beginning or do like in some club or the horse is easy but do not know more advanced dressage.
Glady Rosie
2024-10-17 11:22:16 +0000 UTCI think it would be nice if the roundness/collection stayed either permanent after input or stayed longer. It is not impossible but pretty hard to do in combination with other controls. Also though im not sure if this was asked. When in groundwork lessons it is sometimes hard to tell which gate to go to, because the arrow is the same colour as the fencing in the background. So maybe try another colour or a different way to point towards gates? Aside from that I think the controls have a nice balance between enjoiment and chllenge.

2024-10-15 20:48:13 +0000 UTCThe Book says exactly how much roundness is needed for each move. Its best to keep your horse always fully rounded, its even need for the higher levels. so best to get used to them always being fully on the bit.

2024-10-15 17:45:55 +0000 UTCI really agree with this. I also think it needs to be more clear on where the different levels of roundness are besides fully rounded being obvious
π₯ Dynamite π₯
2024-10-15 17:14:37 +0000 UTCRECOMMENDATION: For dressage I think there needs to be some kind of meter to be able tell what level of roundness is needed for certain moves because besides fully rounded on the bit it's basically impossible to get the right level for the moves like side pass because I am having 0 luck with finding the right level plus it just keeps making the horse center. Also I think the meter needs to last longer
π₯ Dynamite π₯
2024-10-15 17:13:39 +0000 UTCI love them, as a dressage rider I think they are pretty realistic. However, from a playable perspective, the roundness of the horse is hard to keep up with. I think you should make it last a little longer so we can do moves a little more smoothly.
Mayra Wheeler
2024-10-15 17:07:19 +0000 UTCthey are awesome! i think one thing about the lead changes is no horse does a lead change that smooth! like i can't even like tell that the horse is doing a lead change and from riding horses in real life i feel like the horses just need to pick themselves up a little bit more! everything is so awesome though!
Claire Desai
2024-10-15 16:34:07 +0000 UTCI really do like the dressage controls as they are! I think the are pretty realistic, but i think there should be a less sensitive horse in the beginning, that does forgive more faults and is generally easy to ride in dressage, so the players can get used to the controlls.

2024-10-15 15:40:09 +0000 UTCI love the controls! Yes it is difficult, but I feel like there is enough horse games where you just press like Q and E to make the horse do the movements. I love that the controls makes sense. The cues are like I would do in real life

2024-10-15 13:20:08 +0000 UTCAfter a few days of playing, I can assure this is a real great control mechanic. Yes it is challenging, yes it needs training to get it - but simplier, like just pushing one letter keyboard - that would make no sense and no challenge. The pleasure of this game is about harder mechanics of riding and the satisfaction of succeeding in it !

2024-10-15 12:30:14 +0000 UTCYes indeed, that's why it could be great to switch it on or off. That way you can choose how difficult you want it to be ^^

2024-10-15 08:43:38 +0000 UTCDressage controls feel bit hard to understand. I would hope using Q and E for dressage moves. Constantly clicking and figuring out how to pirouette and making it accidently then fustrated trying to figure out how to doing it again does not make game enjoyable. I do like the challenge doing dressage moves, but not fustrating. Controlling horse, turning, trying to make horse do move and going through fence is so annoying. I do like the collection and extended controls

2024-10-15 07:25:38 +0000 UTCI forgot to add that you don't need to time leg taps for the extension/piaffe/yield at all. You can just spam them with no penalty. Not sure if this is intentional but I don't think it is.
Bitapetrone
2024-10-15 03:51:26 +0000 UTCI really enjoy the Dressage so far. It's definitely above and beyond what other horse games offer. One issue I've run into is a sort of awkward drift that occurs in the leg yield/flying change at the walk/trot. I believe this is because the horse is still responding to the leg/rein aid as a regular turn while also performing the yield (this also can happen during the flying changes but this is possible to prevent). This can make certain lines feel very awkward and I don't believe it is intentional. This can be prevented easily in the canter by just bracing the inside (holding inside leg/rein while performing the yield or flying change), but if we do this during the walk/trot it cues the canter, so we cannot use it there and are stuck with the funky drift.
Bitapetrone
2024-10-15 03:49:51 +0000 UTCAfter trying the controls for a little while longer, I'm noticing that most of my issues seem to stem from not being able to time the mouse buttons perfectly. The only way I'm able to do the piaffe is if I click both mouse buttons over and over at the same time while also tapping S. I'm not sure if it's my hand coordination or a bit of lag from my wired mouse to the game? I am getting better the more I practice. I think I'd prefer the scroll wheel on my mouse vs holding S to get the roundness I need as my horse seems to constantly stop instead of transitioning into the next gait
Clicki
2024-10-14 23:41:59 +0000 UTCI'm trying this again today and I'm having less issues, but I still seem to be having issues with collection. When I hold down S the horse just stops, even if I start trying to do a piaffe at a faster collected trot.

2024-10-14 23:34:05 +0000 UTCi love the controls. the only thing i find difficult is the side passes/lateral movements. the horse changes the canter lead instead sometimes, but thats about it!! the complexity of them makes them unique point about the game, please don't change them!! maybe add the ability to change controls, because i think having Q and E to be able to do additional things for example a piroutte, would be lovely. or for some people, other buttons might be more comfortable, like id add S to my mouse button 4, it'd just be more comfortable to learn that way!! also quick note - pleaaaase don't disappear without updates again!!! work on the upward cue of the game gaining traction and update it at least weekly with content! <3

2024-10-14 20:09:25 +0000 UTCThe animations are absolutely stunning, only problem is the difficulty getting to that animation. Its does seem a little more difficult than anticipated, and it can get very stressful while playing. I think it would probably be better if the dressage features have a chosen difficulty e.g. easy where you don't have to get the horse rounded yourself, or hard with the current animations. Can't wait to see this game further down the line as I am already obsessed, and it is completely fine if this wasn't in your vision for the game. Just a little idea to help those less coordinated like myself.

2024-10-14 15:17:45 +0000 UTCthis is the point of the game tho. since the begining this game was supposed to be realistic. if you're looking for an easy to play horse game, literally there are so many different ones. this game is for equestrians, it's supposed to showcase the complexity of horse riding as a discipline

2024-10-14 14:44:08 +0000 UTCYes!! this goes ! I have fibromyalgia, and id love for a difficulty setting for those also with wrist and joint pain, it would make it way more accessible while also enjoying dressage!

2024-10-14 13:24:56 +0000 UTCYou don't have to keep pressing s whilst you are doing the dressage moves and it also doesn't go down super fast so you don't have to do it every single stride π I do think some people could benefit from a difficulty setting too though!

2024-10-14 10:20:15 +0000 UTCI think dressage controls are good, I just find a bit hard to keep the horses rounded by pressing S at the horses's gait rythm while trying to do some of the hardest dressage moves or even when you try to turn the horse. I think it would be a nice idea (for example in some experienced dressage horses) to let them automatically round up with two quick S aid and then they will keep in that position until the rider tell them to change. Other option is just adding a difficulty option in the game settings (just like the jumping difficulty) where the player can choose to play dressage with the roundness requeriment for the moves or without that requirement (the player will just need to do the dressage movement aids but not worrying about horse roundness). I think this option will be appealing for some players aswell. Thank you for your hard work!

2024-10-14 10:06:36 +0000 UTCI love the dressage controls. They are challenging, but thatβs how it should be. Riding isnβt easy, and it requires a lot of fine motor skills. The controls feel wonderfully realistic, and I hope they won't be changed to something less realistic.

2024-10-14 07:33:50 +0000 UTCIt's won't be an option as it's just how Tati is to ride unlike Blaze who is more hot headed who, like me, you will then find easier! I also don't like riding Tati as much for the same reason but it's the realism of the game!

2024-10-14 00:48:49 +0000 UTCPersonally I love the dressage controls, I think they add more complexity to the game since there is a bit of a challenge rather than just simple buttons to do moves. The realism is fantastic.

2024-10-14 00:23:10 +0000 UTCi know this doesnt have to do with dressage but i wish we could disable the option for the horse to adjust the striding by itself bc personally i like doing that myself and when the horse is doing that himself its made me fail some distances as they dont respond to my cues

2024-10-13 23:58:35 +0000 UTCI love the dressage but I wish the button to half hult was different. And we could map the keys would be great. keeping the horse on the bit is nice but I don't understand how sitting back in the seat is a half halt as the picture says its the bit. Also changing the length of the stride is hard to do at the same time as doing the dressage. And idk if I'm just back but I don't think you can turn the horse when doing extended trot or walk as it will just go into a canter so that would be a nice fix

2024-10-13 22:06:28 +0000 UTCI like the walk to canter transition. But is there anyway we can get a halt to canter transition as well?

2024-10-13 20:13:28 +0000 UTCI do like the dressage controls, after a bit of struggle at first, but that's the point isn't it? ;) I do have two things though, one of which I've seen mentioned in the comments before, the flying change sometimes just doesn't happen even if the aids are applied correctly. The other thing I have is more of a "why isn't this possible?" In the demo we could pull on both reins to quickly bring the horse to a halt from any gait. It makes perfect sense because that is literally how to halt a horse, by pulling on both reins, so why is this function gone? I keep running into walls because I keep thinking I can do a quick stop like in the demo just to realize that I can't anymore xD

2024-10-13 12:35:32 +0000 UTCin my opinion, this is probably the best dressage gameplay i have seen in a horse game by far, I really enjoy how it's not just a 'pattern' you have to press for the horse to complete the move, you actively have to time everything perfectly to get it right, it's also you developing your own technique to perform these moves and how to keep the roundness up. On the topic of roundness, I really enjoy this concept, however I have found a flaw/bug with it. If you spam 'S' (slow down button) very quickly in rapid succession, your horses roundness goes up very fast and the horse doesn't freak out. It doesn't matter whether it's in rhythm or not either, it just goes up, this is probably the only thing I would comment on but other than that, amazing job so far

2024-10-13 07:01:20 +0000 UTCI love the dressage controls, and can't wait for dressage lessons, because that would mean even more practice. This is what I love about those controls. They require genuine practice to understand what it's all about, and perform the movements properly. I especially love the 'horse being on the bit' mechanic. I still need to adjust and learn, but so far I'm really enjoying it and can confidently say that ToRR has the best horse controls out of any horse game ever that existed. I can't wait for more content to come! Keep up the good work! β€β€β€

2024-10-13 05:33:18 +0000 UTCHonestly, I'm torn on the controls. I love having the more complex cues because I don't think it *should* be easy and I love the need for the horse to be in the proper frame, but the insane amount of repetitive quick button presses has already flared my carpal tunnel up. The pirouettes are especially bad, the worst offenders on my wrist pain :')

2024-10-13 03:59:28 +0000 UTCI've been really enjoying it so far. The only issues I'm running into is I can't seem to do the half-halt and leg yield.. I'm pretty sure I'm doing what the instructions in the book have said but nothing seems to happen. It could just be I need more practice? I'm working on the piaffe now and I think I almost understand it.. I do hope we get lessons on how to do the moves more accurately, or something on the screen to help us learn it easier. Having the speed up & speed down buttons also have to do with collection & extension seems to be where I'm having an issue. I'm trying to do the extended gaits at the moment & I'm struggling, I've seen extended walk and trot for a split second before my horse breaks into the next gait. So far I've not been able to extend any gait intentionally. EDIT: I'm now able to do the piaffe, but my hands are really starting to hurt. I do kind of wish that when extending or collecting you could hold s or w down in the current gait and then tap with the mouse buttons vs having to tap all 3 at the same time. I'm only able to do the piaffe for a couple of seconds before losing it. I do also like the idea of maybe having collection & extension be other buttons that aren't speed, maybe extension could be left ctrl & extension left shift?

2024-10-13 02:48:35 +0000 UTCI absolutely love the dressage so far! I do wish the subtle queues had more wiggle room in the length of the press, because I usually end up accidentally slowing down, and then losing the rhythm because I have to speed up the horse again. Other than that itβs great!

2024-10-13 02:17:20 +0000 UTCI quite liked the dressage controls, though there are a few things I've particularly noticed: - Leg yielding, as many have pointed out, doesn't seem to stay in a straight line. I've found that this is only the case with Blaze, as she is more sensitive to leg commands than rein commands. Whether intended or not, a smoother way to balance horses that are more leg/rein-sensitive horses in the leg yield would be preferable. - Half-halt windows are a tad too short for how unforgiving they can be. This often causes situations where the horse will bolt out of a piaffe, as the commands for the piaffe and canter transition are very similar -- or oppositely, the horse falls into walk. There doesn't seem to be enough reaction time to consistently and neatly transition out of a piaffe and into a forward collected trot. Some following suggestions related to points brought up by other players: - How fast a horse falls out of collection should vary from individual to individual, as some horse will require far more "hand-holding" than others, per se. Collection decay may still be quick, but gradually slows down the less collected the horse is if that horse is naturally inclined to remain collected on its own. If left alone, collection will still decrease, but it takes slightly longer. - Adding a slight delay in the horse's response may aid in smoothing out any immediate issues. An overall setting that changes how precise the player needs to be could be added for balance and accessibility, similar to the difficulty settings for striding and jumping. - An indicator showing when the horse can no longer hold dressage moves, as the horse seems to fall out of pirouette despite receiving correct inputs to perform the move. This could apply to the piaffe as well, with the time varying depending on the difficulty of the move. The pirouette would have a shorter hold time than piaffe, for example. Overall I'm very pleased with the controls, regardless of how finnicky they might be sometimes. Also, as an unrelated feature, being able to use that notebook in our inventory to write notes on each horse's tendencies would be a nice feature! This could be used to denote which horses are more sensitive to which commands, as well as level of training, jump height, etc.. Whether pre-written and unlocked as the player rides each horse, or as a textbox for players to input themselves, it would be a nice little detail to include. [Edit]: After some more testing, I realize that there is no timer or limit on how long a horse can hold a pirouette. Falling out of the pirouette was, in fact, a skill issue.

2024-10-13 01:35:10 +0000 UTCI really enjoy it, the only issue i struggle with is leg yeild at the canter in a straight line, i cant ever make it straight aha, but other than that i really enjoy it and thinks its really intuitive. 2024-10-13 01:31:47 +0000 UTCI like it a lot so far! Itβs got so much realism and I think you did a great job bringing together real life ques to a nice complex button control. I agree with the other comments, I wish the half halting was a completely different key, maybe control or Q, Z, X just something other than the slow button. It would make the issues between halt and half halt mostly fixed. But I also understand that thereβs supposed to be a level of difficulty to it!

2024-10-13 00:48:44 +0000 UTCNot completely sure but my guess is that this could be something to do with the cross country run out mechanic. Hold both legs might be a way to keep your horse from going to the side of a jump so maybe that is playing into it not allowing turning??

2024-10-12 21:43:48 +0000 UTCThe controls are for the most part great, but adjusting the tempo during collection is less intuitive than everything else. Using the same keys to adjust speed and collection is unergonomic enough to be noticable. It also makes it impossible to collect your horse when reining back. I don't think it works bad enough to warrant an overhaul at the moment, but might become a problem once you start doing more advanced tests. Otherwise the controls are nice. I especially like how you separated the aids for the canter pirouette and leg yield. It flows really nicely. :)

2024-10-12 21:33:47 +0000 UTCI really like the concept of the dressage, sadly it was very hard to execute in my case and it left me with a lot of pain in my hand and my soul XD I would appreciate having an easier way of doing it, like we do with the jumping. I also think that the "hold it by the bit", I think it was called. The bar depletes a little too fast in my opinion, it's hard to time things to get the moves you want and a lot of the time when in theory it's done correctly, it still won't do it. Keep up the amazing work β₯

2024-10-12 21:21:01 +0000 UTCHonestly loved it! The only one I really have trouble with is the leg yield. It completely loses straightness in trot, and I've actually failed to manage it even once in canter. The rest is great as is! I also agree with some people on the occasional oversensitivity of the half-halt and the speed at which the horses lose the roundness, but other than that I've been enjoying the game a lot!

2024-10-12 21:17:16 +0000 UTCHave given them all a go and they are intuitive once you know what you're doing which is good. I would however perhaps offer a "shortcut" mode as an accessibility feature for the more advanced moves, this would be for people with limited ability to use the many buttons required for each movement. This could be turned on or off in the settings, but would enable people to do the dressage tests in the future

2024-10-12 20:20:59 +0000 UTCIt helped for me to tap leg and rein more quickly than just on the hoofbeat, like twice as quickly. So like two taps on the keys on every stride. The icons also turn pink when you do that
Leontine
2024-10-12 20:20:48 +0000 UTCSame for me! I do quick taps with s, and the little icon lights up green, so iβm not doing it wrong. But for example in canter, when I have a stride lenght of 2.5 and do half halts, every other tap on S slows down the horse for just a little bit. So Iβm down to 2.4, 2.3, 2.2 and so on until eventually I end up in trot
Leontine
2024-10-12 20:18:36 +0000 UTCIβve tried everything from the book and it works perfectly. What Iβd love to have changed is the little icon that indicates the gait and that fills up green when the horse is rounded. Itβd be nice to have different looking icons for halt, walk, trot, canter and maybe even gallop. Itβs quite hard for me to see when the horse changes gait, especially going from trot to walk, and I like to glance over to the little icon to see what gait Iβm in. Itβd also be nice to have a full halt again, like in the deme where you pull both reins/press both a and d simultaneously. Also the backing up animation needs a makeover. Horses walk backwards with diagonal legs moving simultaneously, whilst in the game the parallel legs move simultaneously. Thatβd add to more realism. And lastly when I do leg yield, the horse tends to move its shoulder more quickly, so I canβt really keep it straight when doing traverse. Otherwise I love how realistic the controls are and how many different movements are possible.
Leontine
2024-10-12 20:15:26 +0000 UTCthe half halt is supposed to be quite short. you see the bit icon flash green when the half halt was successful. you should also check what fps the game runs with, in the settings
Tales of Rein Ravine
2024-10-12 20:11:46 +0000 UTCI will say that half-halting cue COULD do with a bit more of wiggleroom. On both of my keyboards I'm really struggling with making the tap short enough to not register as slow-down, and that's with trying for quite a long while, on just simple jaunts through the field, with no steering required. I can't imagine keeping up with it riding proper dressage course that needs steering and proper lines as well as tempo. Perhaps making it work as a little bit longer tap? (Or making them charge/deplete in easier rate?) If I had option of changing keyboard settings, I'd probably move it to the space or shift button myself WSAD fingers are busy enough as it is I find them really hard to figure out in walk as well, I'm not sure which hoof to aim for and which landing stage. (also while practicing half-pass in arena, poor Blaze keeps getting stuck on the metal fence, is this a bug that's been reported before?) Walk to canter is a bit annoying, simply due to how long the collection in walk takes, but I think that might be a me-problem xD Extended trot and walk are pretty achievable, for some reason I'm struggling with extended canter (and lead changes) All in all it's pretty cool, but the learning curve is brutal. It's like them rythm games x)

Abby No
2024-10-12 19:24:14 +0000 UTCI absolutely love the dressage controls. I agree with some people, especially for lessons or if competitions get added, maybe a bit more of a buffer on how quickly the horses roundness level drops. Maybe for experienced and trained horses like Blaze, the roundness could drop slower and less experienced and younger horses will need more work to keep round and it will drop faster. That would make it super realistic too, because irl some of those higher level horses are able to maintain focus and stay round with a little less feedback, whereas a less experienced horse needs a lot more feedback to stay round. It would make it feel like the different difficulties of jumping with horses like Milo vs Diablo from the demo. I love the complexity of it because it makes it so realistic, so if it got made easier I would definitely want it to be a toggle like the jumping strides has.
Brielle Wilday
2024-10-12 19:20:29 +0000 UTCI really enjoy the complexity of dressage as it is at the moment. Books were clear with they instructions and after few trials, you get used to the mechanics and able to focus more on the horse itself instead of your own hands. Can't wait to try ride real life dressage tests.

2024-10-12 19:08:49 +0000 UTCI think itβs the perfect amount of difficulty, after a little bit of practice you get it. The only thing, is I find the leg yield in canter βglitchyβ you donβt always get it, and it doesnβt last long. I think itβs harder to get than the others

2024-10-12 19:00:41 +0000 UTCi just thought maybe there could be skill level similar to jumping. that u can choose how precise u have to be with rythm and stuff and easy could more forgiving and harder u have to be more on time and stay in the rythm better
Pinja Laurila
2024-10-12 18:44:58 +0000 UTCas others have mentioned the timing on the half-halt is a little tricky, especially since it slows down the horse. I also struggle a bit to turn at the same time. Maybe keeping the horse the same amount of roundness on the turn, esp since in real life inside bend can help engage a horse? and/or making the half-halt timing more generous or making the horse lose roundness more slowly. i do like that it's somewhat challenging though! it gives a similar feel as trying to do it in real life with the complexity :)

2024-10-12 18:19:03 +0000 UTCI think the dressage is really well explained and the aids you have to give make a lot of sense. Itβs a challenge to get the different actions to work, which is quite fun because you get rewarded if you finally get it. Though the half halt time span feels a bit too short/harsh, I have trouble to keep the horse in a certain gait, especially canter if you want to do leg yields, since half a second more pressure and it will slow the horse down. Also since you have to press a lot of buttons at the same time. Flying changes, as others mentioned as well, seem a bit wonky and donβt get recognised all of the time. Might also be needing to get more practice or getting used though! All in all very satisfied and looking forward for more lessons and quests.

2024-10-12 18:09:46 +0000 UTCI have only gotten the piaffe on blaze. I wasnβt able to on Tati. Trina Ruhland
2024-10-12 17:57:25 +0000 UTCI think personally that the half halte are kind of hard because they penalize you a lot if you miss the timing, your horse slows down and then itβs just a really hard to keep the rhythm because you have to speed up to make sure your horse doesnβt go down to the next gate. Just feels like a lot to focus on constantly

2024-10-12 17:54:46 +0000 UTCOne weird thing with leg yield, and this may just be something I'm not understanding: During leg yield, my horse will start to slowly rotate in the direction of the leg yield. Eventually, it'll even make a full circle. I've been trying to counteract this by using opposite turning to keep the horse going forward. So, I guess my question is: should it be doing that or is that just part of the challenge lol?

2024-10-12 17:44:25 +0000 UTCI realized this too yesterday. The horse switches to canter if you try to turn it while doing extended trot, since it registers the turning as the canter command (walk to canter transition). Iβm thinking of changing the canter command to perhaps require a double tap with the outer leg instead of one tap.

2024-10-12 17:41:15 +0000 UTCYes better optimization is in the works, though the game will still have higher requirements than the demo. The newer engine version used in the main game has its own requirements as well.

2024-10-12 17:40:06 +0000 UTCTried them this afternoon on Blaze. I really liked them a lot! It's the first game I know that has this detail in giving aids! π I do really like the subtility in the aids. I learned to ride when I was 22 and I am only riding for like 2 years now, and learning to ride a horse 'on the bit' more or the less mirrored the experience in the difference in the way of giving the cues and the timing of the whole thing. Also, the level of the dressage moves also corresponds nicely with the mouse and keyboard gymnastics required! π π Off-topic note: The game runs butter-smooth on my laptop, around 120 fps. Dunno about the 1% lows, although it feels really fluent. (Ryzen 7 7840HS, RTX 4050 6gb, 16GB RAM).

2024-10-12 17:39:42 +0000 UTCIβm investigating this problem, as of now my best guess however is that the computerβs hardware isnβt able to handle the game. Do you know what graphics card you have?

2024-10-12 17:39:26 +0000 UTCIf ur switching to canter it's bc ur holding the kick buttons for *that much* too long. Try to be mindful of that, it happened to me a ton too but eventually I realized what I was doing and I resorted to keeping my fingers off the mouse and just tapping instead of clicking and now I can hold an extended trot forever

2024-10-12 17:37:04 +0000 UTCHonestly, I was super into dressage last night and as complex as it is, I really love it. It puts my coordination to the test tho, especially the walk-canter transitions but the controls are just fine. Maybe at worst, we should have like an option or something to assist in keeping the horse rounded for things we would have to focus more on such as lessons or competitions if u ever add any of that, bc it's hard to be constantly half halting and focusing on correcting ur mistakes at the same time. Takes practice ofc, but I see nothing wrong with any of the controls. Definitely keep it all the way it is

2024-10-12 17:35:55 +0000 UTCWhen I launch the game it says I need a new graphics driver even though I installed the new one and then when I press play it goes to a black screen and then crashes. Ik a lot of other people have had this problem and I was just wondering if there's anything I can do

2024-10-12 17:34:17 +0000 UTCthat is exactly what i'm doing xd *not sure how thats gonna work in canter tho without the horse going full speed*

2024-10-12 17:32:58 +0000 UTCExtended canter is a thing. What I discovered is that when you're doing an extension, you have to keep holding the "W" key and keep tapping the mouse buttons. And make sure you're in rhythm. It just takes practice, and I'm still getting a hold on it too lol Also, the same applies to piaffe, just holding "S" instead of "W"

2024-10-12 17:31:32 +0000 UTCI need to play with them a little more. But my initial thoughts are that the controls are good. They just take a little practice to get used to. I found the instructions to be quite good. I am having a hard time understanding if I'm doing flying changes right, but I may just have to practice it more. One thing about the book though: it would be helpful if there was a table of contents on the first page so that we could skip to the topic we're looking for. I found myself having to click in and out of the book when I was struggling with a movement, and it got a little annoying to click through the pages. It's not absolutely necessary, but it would be nice if possible. Other than that, I'm really enjoying the dressage elements. I just need to practice them more, and I believe that's to be expected.

2024-10-12 17:28:34 +0000 UTCI actually quite like the dressage controls, although i'm having trouble to keep the extended trot for a longer period of time. Idk if thats intended but the horse often goes into canter after a bit. And I couldnt figure out how to get into the extended canter, if that is even a thing xd
