April Photo of the Every Other Month

With weak thunderstorm outlooks into the next several days, here's a reminder that beauty can still be captured among the lesser storm modes.  I snagged these crepuscular rays peering through a line of pulse storms on 35mm slide film back in 1999 (looks like fuji chrome velvia).

That being said, the resolution and clarity visible on a storm system, even on a well lit funnel, from a moving vehicle - nowadays its incredible. The stuff of dreams for chasers a couple of decades ago. I think the digital age has been an opening of a door for the explorer to shed even more detail to the audience. So once more Hank in that regard I tip my hat sir! Goodnight from bonnie Scotland.

The advent of digital tech has been a godsend and from snapping birds in the garfen to shooting HD video from.your pocket, the filmimg and photography world has become instant

When I was younger I went through the whole B&W thing that moody amateurs like to do for effect, and on film you can capture a great range of emotion drama and interest in a B&W plate, but I personally feel thats as much to do with the brain getting active to fill in the blanks.

Hey Gary, I think you're talking slides vs digital sensors right? I used to be a slide snob until it was laid out for me how much more fortunate we are as storm photographers to have the digital tech. If you're good in post (which I am not), you can make your digital photo appear very close to film and tornadoes are much less blurry these days due to sensor sensitivity. Still, my slides looked amazing right out of the chemistry, and my digital stills... meh. How about you?

Ps Hank your photographic notes reminded me, I also love astronomy, and not so long ago (pre digital) you almost had to be an alchemist to use such mystical artifices as "hypered tech pan" using early tracking mounts. I never got that far but do wonder how many photographers view CCD versus celluloid the same as CD v Vinyl....đŸ€”đŸ˜„
