They exist, but they're uncommon (and mostly for the wealthy). I underestimated how much interest there would be in this and now kind of wish I'd included more in the second book, but that stuff is planned for the third.

It seems like all the women Rick meets are soon infatuated with him. Lisa, Emily, even that librarian. Maybe he has a Don Juan core that he does not know about.

His defensive core prevented it from exerting any direct control, but they're tricky animals, so recognizing that he wasn't thinking clearly was more important.

I liked the hypnotic Kitsune. "Let me ouuuuut!" What was it that let him resist? His defensive core? Just a naturally strong mind?

Ahhh, how sweet. They went on a killing wild animals date. Plenty of jackalope appetizers, and a rabid dragon for the main course! It was really bothering me that he put the jackalope corpses in a plastic bag (I assume 'garbage bag' meant a plastic bag). Surely he would realize their horns would poke all sorts of holes in the bag. But maybe that world has really tough bags, because it seemed like there was only one hole.

Hard to believe anyone could be that thick, though. And Melissa is still my favourite. Want to see more of her. Always smile when she's on the page being silly or genuine.
