Nauda's Blueprints Post-Skyvenom

And so we come to the last blueprints - Nauda had the biggest change this book, finally merging her two leg columns. It has been many books since the collapse of her soulhome, but her rebuilding plan is finally coming around. It's also been multiple books since the point where I indicated when she'd come into her own again, but we're getting closer to that point. Hopefully actually taking some time with this feels rewarding.

Anyway, good news about the Amazon release of Skyvenom, as well as chapters of Crimsoncrest: expect things to start soon. We won't begin the standard schedule immediately, because I need to do the release right, but we're getting close!

Ooh thank you! That’s awesome, so there’s definitely a different approach/industry to perceived “last tier” crafting. Must make Dominion an extremely variable/interesting tier in the regions that believe it’s the limit.

Elliott

By the time the story reaches Dominion, the characters will be largely focused beyond it, so I might as well answer: Dominions who believe that's the last tier use a variety of tactics. Many keep adding more and more dense soulcrafting, trying to squeeze out every bit of power. Remodeling to try to perfect designs is definitely done, but it's considered risky because without another ascension you might cause weakening you can't undo.

Sarah Lin

Random thought - is remodelling at the dominion tier more common? If most dominions think that’s the end (and thus there are no more ascensions to lock in your design) might that encourage more… hot-swapping/flexibility at that tier? I guess we haven’t seen a dominion’s point of view poking at the sky, to know what it is that makes them think it’s the end/spread rumours about “endless tier going on forever”. Maybe they all know /something/ is up. Maybe at tier 9, hot-swapping could be a bit more of a thing.

Elliott

There’s got to be a big difference between “A blueprint that gets you to 9” and “A perfect 9-tier blueprint”. Surely no one gets to 9 with a bad design, but then you can never out-grow your peers at that point.

Elliott

Thanks, that makes sense.

Kangaroo

Because it's seen as a relatively minor boost and many soulcrafters are focused on the big gains like ascensions. That said, many of the well-established soulcrafters in the series (those stuck at a tier) have used this too, the books just don't go into detail.

Sarah Lin

Is there a reason that fusing things onto the shield wall to boost techniques, like Fiyu's bracer gate house or the carbon bricks that boosts Theo's gravity is not more common in the series?

Kangaroo

Because you get diminishing returns. A single floor of shielding wall is critical for preventing damage, and a few further floors can help you mask your strength or hide your soulcrafting, but it gets more difficult to build walls higher for minor incremental benefits.

Sarah Lin

How come no one builds the wall upto their current stage?

Kangaroo

I have a feeling that our main 3 are going to hit that 9th tier by the end of the series.

(Either that or potential post-series curiosities) Double thank-you Lamsey, I didn’t realise those awesome blueprints were volunteer work! 🥰

Elliott

Please consider, when you have capacity, sprinkling in some of the key secondary characters. Krikree and Guchiro come to made specifically.

I love Nauda’s slower pace. It feels like in a lot of these types of books that no one ever gets punished for rushing and Nauda is a perfect example of why not to rush. Then her building something arguably greater from that failure has beeb fantastic to watch.

CommodoreCaptain

I worry about Nauda. After Dave said he doesn't know if any of the major powers of the Nine Worlds have reached the ninth tier, I have to wonder if the plans she made with Theo were too audacious. Is it too much to hope that her statue will ever get a head? My fingers are crossed for her.

Desertopa

Well, these lovely blueprints are done by Lamsey, who is a volunteer. Tracking more characters would mean a lot more art time each book, as much as people would enjoy them. It would also be more planning overhead for me, because I haven't figured out every single detail of the secondary characters.

Sarah Lin

“Last blueprints” [what?] Seriously though, would blueprints for Krikree, Nanjuma, Esaire (and Guchiro?) be possibilities sometime in the future? Nauda’s building is I’ve had the hardest time visualising this book, so very much enjoying today’s visuals! ( “ooh yeah that makes sense, why didn’t I picture it that way?”)

Elliott

Omphalos.

Sarah Lin

The Nauda doodles are adorable!

Love to see how solid Nauda looks now, especially with her marvelous beat down of Esaire.

FoolRegnant

What room / material causes her shockwaves?
