Well this is an interesting new character dynamic. My first thoughts reminded me of Ransom and Puck, but this is wholly different! I'm really curious about Ahsan's mysterious background now - how a member of the Noble caste in this civilization came to be in such a situation (he clearly still has some "hyena privilege" though), and whether or not his pariah status among the other "untouchables" is a racial grudge because he's hyena or something more. There doesn't seem to be the venom associated with a grudge - the other servants don't seem to persecute him like they might if they hated him per se; rather they just avoid him. I'm very excited for more chapters, Rukis! This is the best anthro-themed writing since Redwall!

Sa Kadar in his attempt to get all his fellow workers from his hide got a diminutive shadow as a companion now. And A cheetah with a grudge towards him. To make a wild guess here (and oh how wild that one is if you take into account that this is only chapter 2) this will become a symbiotic relationship between both as Kadar gets meat to rejunivate faster while Ahsan has now someone that truely cares for him and is willing to converse even. Might be interesting to learn what made the hyena do it (guess it may be the overseer Lochan somehow) and as an added bonus Ahsan may be able to read and write so Kadar may be able to learn how to read his contract for once minimizing trickery by the clans. Really wonderful story. Can't wait for the next part.

Wow I just adore Ahsan's personality! I can't help but love him. :)

Loved this part and the developing characters. One quick thing I noticed on the 2nd page: "When afterwards the ferret had declared the injury to be 'minor', which I contest to this day was an uneducated GUEST." Should it be "was an uneducated guess"? Anywho, great writing and I look forward to more :)
