The savage orc as a stand in for black Africans has a long history of commentary. The white passing characters in their traditional roles within this narrative teaching them to be less violent and enoy their spicy food is tropey in a way that isn't my favorite. It's the tough thing about japanese studios being inspired by western media without always being aware of the original inspirations of those tropes.

2024-03-02 06:54:09 +0000 UTCMaybe it's because I'm not American, but I don't understand what the connection between spicy food and "savages" are, where I live spicy food is generally associated with south east asian cultures, especially but not limited to Thailand, as far as I know they don't have any "savage" thing associated with them.
