STATE OF FAULT - MILESTONE ONE

Hi guys, we hope you are all doing well.

Okay, Shirakami asked how many more improvements there's going to be for ms1 so here is the short answer:

・Lab 9 + Director Gkroulies modernized to current art style. (First time exclusive showing today!)

・3 more background asset upgrades including the pawn shop.

・99.9% re-scored soundtrack (all of the orgels and music boxes will stay).

・Completely redoing the translation to English from scratch.

Many of you probably already know about the last one but yes, we are completely redoing the translation of milestone one. It is now being handled by the individual that worked on milestone two side above, so worry not about the quality. (Did I already make this announcement on Patreon? If I did sorry).

Anyways, so this brings up the whole "but I liked the original (put asset here) better!" cries and you are justified to do so, especially when it comes to something as unequivocally vital as the translation. We already sold you a product as-is and we keep changing it. What are we, George Lucas? Rest assure though, we will give you all of the versions so you can keep the one that you hold dear to your heart the most. And the one that you don't as much. Why not?

Thing is... after all of these crazy massive updates, milestone one is basically a completely brand new game, enough so that we probably could have confidently charged for the update via Steam. Maybe few bucks, you know? And figured out a way to give it just to our patrons for free or something. But you know what... we're not gonna do that. We're going to have 2 versions of milestone one on Steam and the "legacy" version -- which is such a fitting name, the version that is on Steam right now -- will become a free DLC. The Vita version will become the default for new buyers. New buyers will also have access to both versions as well (because it's not always their fault that they are late to the party). And that's it. This is probably the last time we will tinker with ms1's assets. Some of our hardcore fans are independently translating the game to other languages and we might add these later as non-QA'ed TL's but as far as art and music goes, this is probably it for a while. After this I think I can confidently call milestone one, on par with milestone two:a in terms of asset quality.

Finally, you know... I keep saying this but this is all possible because of you patrons. All of the money you guys pump into here? Pretty much directly went into these upgrades and maintenance.  If it weren't for this money, we wouldn't have been as comfortable with ordering out 6 new assets, an entire music score for basically a full game and a brand new set of translations. Do you guys remember??? We couldn't even front 5 grand when we first started the original translation, we had to do a Kickstarter for it!! This is as grassroots as things can get, folks. You guys for some crazy reason found faith in us that we'll make the right choice with this money and hopefully it shows.

PS

We can't give you much detail as of the moment... but there's some crazy exciting stuff that's happening behind the curtains. A certain "internationally-massive" company's executive that's in charge of marketing here in Japan has fallen in love with fault and we are currently in talks to market the IP on a much larger scale. What does this mean? I have no freaking idea! It might go through or fall through, we can't be sure yet... but I have a pretty damn good feeling about this. Just know this: the series is not standing still.

StP updates will come sometime soon too! (Don't worry, we're working hard on that as well).

I have locked this post to Patrons only but you are free to share this information, including the art above with the public. I just feel weird about opening this post publicly because the message is so obviously directed towards our patrons.

Anyways, we at AiD hope you all have a wonderful day!!!!!

Awesome work guys... I really love the communicating that you've been providing us with throughout this whole time. It makes the wait for the MS1 re-make so much more bearable!

ParityDesu

Every week AiD production value jumps exponentially, you guys really are something I wonder how much everyone's skill will explode by the time 2017 arrives!

TerriblyGrimm

I'll make sure to give MS1 another play-through when the update is done, and I hope your talks go through and it'll make Fault more recognized by more fans! Thank you for your hard work!

Jikap

I'm very excited for the future and wish you good luck ! Keep on the amazing work

Like many on here, I can't reiterate enough how much the series means to me. MS1 was my first visual novel almost a year ago and I'm so glad it was. It has easily become one of my most cherished games/franchises/memories/experiences of all time. Please keep up the amazing work and we all thank you so much.

Man it's great to see the series striding forwards, i remember when i saw it on steam and i though "Hmm, seems like it could be alright, i'll give it a go" and oh boy did that rock my world. So i wish you guys all the luck, and i mean all of the luck, and have a fantabidosy day!

Fez

Really excited for the new updates, you guys are great! Keep up the fantastic work!

Yea the fault series does have it's way of working it's magic on you. I mean fault milestone one made me cry. The only other video games that ever did that to me were metal gear solid 3, silent hill 2 and the original knights of the old republic.

The Mighty Lord Noobius

Good job guys! Hoping to see what comes next and good luck in the future! :D Looks like I really have to re-play MS1 at this point. XD

A question I didn't want to tack on to the support gush is. The PSvita version will be playable on PS4 or no? I'm interested in playing the update on my tv, so curious. I'd buy it again if so.

Sacae

Whoa, didn't see THAT coming. I really do appreciate it thought. Really. It actually was just a simple thought, because you once said that, IF fault will ever be able to afford/support voice acting, you would go back and update all previous installments (which ofc includes fms1). So there is at least ONE more "possible" update, this game might go through, at some point. And personally I certainly do believe, that one day we will get VA. The current two fault games might be quite short, but they both are incredibly deep, deeper than most other game's I've played so far (which usually have much more hour of "gameplay"). And the way the game is presented is the perfect mix to please both, hardcore fans of the japanese (moe) culture and those that tend to avoid those things, but still aren't completely disinclined. In my opinion, the only reason why this series still has such a small (but cute) community simply is, because not many people know of it and/or haven't played it yet. I know, I've said that in almost every post I've done so far, but you guys are just awesome. I wish for you guys to keep going on for as long as you want to, and I will try to support you guys until the very end. Not even once I've missed any cent that I've pledged to you. Not on this patreon, nor on the Kickstarter project. Edit: On a side note: Getting mails/notifications concerning this patreon is the only kind, I am 100% I will be enjoying, even before I've read them. So keep up the spam! Oh and just curious: Is there ever a chance for getting an additional/new (vocaled) theme song at some point? Do you have any ideas yet?

Yoshi #ForeverVirgin

I'm excited for the new translation, I'm glad to see that's a sure thing now. As much as I love Milestone 1, there is room for improvements and you guys seem ready to do such, which I find awesome. Other people could have left the first game untouched and just moved on. There's a reason I support, other than loving the world, characters, and story - and that's because you guys work so hard and make good choices like this. I can't stop saying how much I love you guys. I'm glad that the money for Patron is helping you guys so much, there's always fear that there isn't enough support for you guys and I wish more people would jump on the Fault boat, so it's good to hear we are helping as much as this. And, well, enough with the gushing, keep up the awesome work.

"A certain "internationally-massive" company's executive that's in charge of marketing here in Japan has fallen in love with fault and we are currently in talks to market the IP on a much larger scale." That makes me so excited!! Hopefully it works out, you guys really, really deserve it! <3

Nari Kim

Things are looking really bright for the future! Also, I'll obviously have to re-read ms1 once the update hits Steam, and ms2s:a as well because I can't just stop there.

BloodySeraph

Guillermo del Toro and Kojima start hanging out again. fault milestone one gets big updates. Coincidence?

This is amazing stuff AiD I can't believe a major marketing firm has seen your work that's very good news I hope fault continues to strive on! :) supporting you guys all the way :D
