It comes from certain sounds having extremely similar facial shapes with most of the differences being inside the mouth, ie: b & p or s, z & d. Did that person say bills or pills, bread or press, soot or zoo, please or breeze? An AI would be able to shape match a list of possible words and from there extrapolate possible coherent sentences, just like on one of those shows where they use a computer to guess someone's password or to break a code, but choosing the right sentence out of the list of possibilities would still have to be a humans job.

2020-03-20 12:41:43 +0000 UTCI've had several years of ASL classes for an Interpreter Certificate, and as far as I can tell throughout the show what Amiya uses is True ASL, which has a grammar structure closer to french and spanish, rather than ESL (English to Sign Language), which is the straight word-to-sign translation used in most tv shows and movies. Also, lip reading is very difficult, FBI training can only get you to 24% accuracy and everything else is guesswork. It's actually harder for someone who was born deaf, and therefore has no frame of reference for what lip shapes should make what sounds, to lip-read accurately. What Amiya is doing is very very skilled, to be able to catch the lip shapes even when Callum is half turned from her.

I've completely forgotten the names of the two new people (sorrrry, you should maybe put them on screen at start) but middle left guy has good points and is talkative but not annoying, and far right guy has great observations + recall but I wish he talked a little more! Gotta get into that comfort zone and tell us how you're feeling, especially as someone with strong feelings about other animated shows :D Looking forward to later seasons too!
