The first hour of this illustration was a mistake well, not a mistake really, as it helped me understand what NOT to do. The initial idea I had for a lime character was a soldier. Although visually interesting to me, this concept was insufficient as it shared little relation to the lime, besides the color. So, I went to bed and hoped for a good idea the next day, with a fresh mind.
While checking social media, I couldn't help but see a meme about things or people before and after trying a lemon. I thought the asterisk symbol would be a better fit for the composition, but I needed to come up with a profession in which this symbol could be shown. Initially, I thought about a fighter hitting another in the face, but it wasn't good enough. Then, the idea of a worker breaking the pavement landed perfectly. I could suggest the symbol in the floor broken by a jackhammer with a lemon squeeze shape. Aside from that, I thought the character's personality should feel like an "acid" person. Somehow, using pointy shapes and green tones, I figured I could translate this feeling. I mixed the character's worker outfit with a punk/pop-like style to add a new layer to the character's identity.
This process is a clear example of my commitment to creating multi-layered characters, not just for the sake of creation but to ensure their personalities have enough depth to be developed beyond a few pages in the future.
