Two Weeks' Notice, And Info For Streamers.

So, yesterday I finally found time to walk down to my day job, and give my boss notice that I would be leaving his employ.  I confess that it is going to be VERY difficult to go into that kitchen for more 10-hour shifts, knowing that I could very well walk out the door at any moment, but I want to leave on good terms.

In many ways, the owner, Ed Anania, could be considered the first Patron of the Peace Island project.  The job he gave me sustained the project for the fist eight months of very early development.

Lemme tell ya- after 11 hours on my feet, nothing was more refreshing than sitting down, and losing myself in Unity for an hour or two, knowing that I was bringing the project one more tiny step towards completion.

So, Thanks again, guys!  This is amazing.  Even during the Kickstarter phase, I still worked 3 days a week at the kitchen- this is the first time I can dedicate myself fully to the project!

AND THAT BRINGS ME TO THE MANY REQUESTS WE'VE GOTTEN TO STREAM ALPHAS OF PEACE ISLAND.

First off- I wanna say I really dig the streaming community - it seriously makes me think I was born a few decades too early, when I see folks half my age making their living gaming, and conversing with the public.  I've also noticed that some streamers have taken to covering serious topics during their sessions, which is fantastic on so many levels...

In recent days, we've gotten requests by a number of streamers to get permission to feature the next Peace Island Alpha.

Now, I understand that the motives in asking this are well-intended.

HOWEVER:

Please understand that allowing a streamer - no matter how small, independent, and well-intended - to broadcast pretty much the entirety of the Game World during this early phase of development would not only be a massive spoiler, it would also not be all that good for the streamer - ya see:

As I type this, most of the game play mechanics of Peace Island exist in separate Unity scenes and project files, and are waiting to be integrated into the main game world.  Your stream, at this point, would be indeed pretty, but ultimately, it wouldn't really convey the game very well.

So, I must ask that the streaming community respect us in the same manner in which we respect them.

When the public Beta is out- I will personally send advance copies to streamers who have contacted us, and promote their work - it will be a great partnership, going forward!

But until then, we respectfully request that streamers refrain from streaming any alpha versions of Peace Island.  I know this might lose us a bit of support, but this policy is in the interest of both the developers, and the gaming public at large.

GOTTA RUN A KITCHEN FOR 10 HOURS- We'll chat again, soon!

I've just started being a patron for 5$/month which is indeed a small help but your project made me fell in love so this my smal add to the pyramid.

That is a VERY good point! Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

I want to provide a warning about the money from Patreon in pledges. I had one patron pledge for my Patreon and, being new to Patreon, I thought that meant I had the money for that month ensured. I did not. When it came time to charge the patron, the card didn't work and I didn't receive any money. I am not saying that this will happen to you and your patrons are likely great, responsible adults, but you might find that some part of the money you think you'll be getting is guaranteed, but it isn't until that month charges. When it does, if all patrons' money isn't able to be charged, you won't get that money. As such, I'd figure 10-20% of the money won't go through, and to account for that being the case. I mention this, because you are quitting your job and you may want to be careful not to count on the entirety of the pledge until each month actually charges. Then you'll have a legitimate idea of how much money you'll get and can account for that going forward as it will likely increase from there due to the amount of publicity that you've gotten. Good luck and in no way am I trying to put a damper on your excitement!
