Custom Captions on Patreon Video Content
Added 2024-05-31 13:00:10 +0000 UTCDid you know that we have custom captions on YouTube? Our caption writer, Anna, does a wonderful job and often adds extra fun tidbits in the captions. Until recently, we couldn't do custom captions on Patreon. But we now we can! Finally! We want to gauge how you feel about custom captions. Please respond to this poll and leave feedback in the comments.

I missed the poll but, yes, I absolutely need captions. I joined my brother when he was watching a movie at home without subtitles and I had to try very hard to keep up with the dialogue

2024-06-05 04:51:07 +0000 UTCI grew up having captions on movies/shows because my parents aren’t fluent enough to watch shows without them. I don’t NEED them, but it feels weird to me watching shows without them. Besides, I usually watch you guys at work so having captions/subtitles sometimes helps me if I happen to miss the last second of what was being said.

2024-06-04 12:50:13 +0000 UTCAs someone who doesn't have English as my first language, captions helps a lot so I can both read and listen. And then when I come across a word I don't understand the captions tells me the spelling so I can look it up.

2024-05-31 18:58:28 +0000 UTCWhile I myself might not need them often, I think for our deaf/hard of hearing community members, it would be ideal to have them (and maybe with an option to turn off, I don't know if it's currently possible with the patreon video reader). So yes. Accessibility is awesome.

2024-05-31 18:17:10 +0000 UTCAs fun as the occasional subtitle glitches on Patreon are, it shows their lack of concern for the HOH community and that's not cool. Anna, however, is extremely cool and proper subtitles (and the fun little jokes that get hidden in) would be VERY appreciated!

Tbh I don't know if you even want translation to other languages, nor if you've got enough viewers from my country (Israel) to warrant captions in my language (Hebrew) but if you do...... 2024-05-31 13:47:57 +0000 UTCI have audio processing disorder and almost always have captions on(or my volume has to super high which nobody wants), so custom captions is always super helpful to me. It’s also really meaningful because it makes me know that people like me are cared for within the community!

2024-05-31 13:24:16 +0000 UTCI don't use captions myself but I still voted "Yes" for (custom) captions because 1) it makes the content on Patreon more accessible to people who do need them and 2) other people will probably appreciate the humor of having little extras thrown into the captions.
