Daily Doug Live - Episode 11

Hello everyone,

I'm posting this archive of our hangout from Saturday, January 8 (posted on Jan 9) to the entire community with the permission of those who were on the livestream. With the upcoming tier changes, we wanted to share with all of you what these live hangouts are like. This one goes for about 2.5 hours. Among the highlights are listening to 4 songs and having some robust discussion about upcoming repertoire.

We use Zoom for these hangouts for a few reasons...1) My Pro account allows me nice settings to maximize quality of shared video and stereo audio...which is better quality than the chat rooms in Discord. 2) I like being able to put a face to some of your names. (Attendees don't need to turn on their camera, though.) 3) Zoom's recording function makes editing and archiving these a breeze.

We typically do these hangouts twice a month...normally on the first and third Saturdays of the month. Access to these hangouts are exclusive to folks in our top tier. And, we always archive these hangouts...the archive is normally only available to top tier patrons.

I hope you enjoy!

Don't skip side 2 of Tales from Topographic Oceans. I think it's lovely. A more introspective piece than the rest of the album. On a different note, I think The Battle of Epping Forest and Cinema Show/Aisle of Plenty by Genesis would be great tracks to include on the YouTube channel. Great to hear that Ashes Are Burning is coming up!

The Endless Enigma is mostly in G flat major, though.

Doug, hi. If you’ll permit me, I want to send you off in a different direction. P.F.M. (Premiata Forneria Marconi), an Italian Prog band from the 70s. Hunt down “River of Life”, and “Celebration”, both off the album “Photo’s of Ghosts. Prog with Italian cultural influence. Again, much more to discover there, but these are two good intro’s. They’re actually still around, but their best work was in the 70s. Peace.

Writing a prog song. If you want your first to be taken seriously, consider a minor key. Recall the lament from King Crimson, Epitaph? Or the Endless Enigma? Or, if you wish to be more current, something like Epica The Skeleton Key?

Jim Reeves

Hope your symptoms are minor, Chuck. Welcome to the community.

So sad that I have missed some. Im a new patron but also recently became ill with Covid..I am fully vaxxed and boosted but have just been bombarded with unmasked and unvaxxed people while working here near Harrisburg. The area is so unprepared that I could not even get tested for 3 weeks. I am a designer in the defense industry and decided to retire. It will be tough for a year or so but I cant handle the stress anymore. Wish me luck!

We do have to factor in how many videos are out for the same song, the time the song is loaded onto YouTube, Is there Official videos for the song as well. Just an observation. Doug mentioning that he needs to hit the space bar more often. IT really is a double edge sword. There are people that hate when Doug talks over the music so much, but then there are the people that complain when reactors pause the song. You won't be able to win that battle. However, I do think reactors pause the videos a lot to avoid the copyright bots and since Doug doesn't pause a lot, it could be a reason he gets blocked more often.

Also featuring my cat drawing blood. :) I’m almost tempted to rewatch it just to see how my “ow” face looks.
