The Alien King’s Mate part 27

PART 27:

KING VULCAN

I slam the door shut and ram my fist into the nearest wall, my rein of destruction threatening to level the palace.

I’ve never dealt with jealousy before. I had no reason to. But now… now I’m seeing how dangerous it is. Lilian doesn’t understand. Life and status is nothing like it is on Earth. I earned this title and prove that I deserve it every month as I fight the strongest male presented before me. I’m to be respected, and so is my queen.

Veroin blatantly showed a sexual interest in his queen. I should have knocked his teeth from his head and turned them into his crown if he so badly wants to replace me and be a king.

I walk to where I last saw him, needing to distract myself from the volcanic argument I had with my mate. He’s no longer here. He’s likely getting treated and licking his wounds. I’ll make sure he never enters my fucking home again.

Guilt becomes stronger with every step I take. I didn’t mean to scream at Lilian, but I lost all sense when I saw how vulnerable she is. The little human doesn’t see herself as a queen yet. Doesn’t know she’s supposed to be respected above all else. She regards herself as any girl in a town, but she is a queen in a palace.

When will she see that? Understand it? I didn’t let my own blood—my sister—walk over Lilian. There’s no way I would let a cheeky snob do it, either.

Why did this have to happen now? We just broke the touch barrier. Securing our mateship should have been easier. But now it feels like we took a dozen steps backwards.

As I walk down the hall, I hear whispers. Servants know that I used gold to fight Veroin. I broke my own law and will have to spill blood to make things right. Take a whipping. I will do so with my head held high. I will lead by example.

The auction has been canceled and the nobles have left to spread the gossip. I stare at the damage I made to the palace and feel disturbed by the sight of uprooted stone. I was so enraged that I nearly tore down the entire palace. I was in a dangerous state of mind, reckless. That’s the power that human has over me.

I stand there for a long time, watching the gold glitter under the chandeliers. I don’t regret my reaction. I would tear Veroin apart again if I had to, but I wish I hadn’t upset Lilian. She doesn’t understand my outrage, but perhaps she doesn’t have to. Perhaps I need to take care of her image and safety even if she disagrees with my means. I may be a king in a palace surrounded by fine art, order, and nobles, but I told her about the wild blood in my veins. The brute nature that will always ensure she is safe. I’m not ashamed of it.

But alas, I must make things right. I don’t want Lilian to be upset for days. I already miss her smile. The warmth of her fingers as our hands brush. I want to take her on more dates.

For days now, I’ve been thinking about a gift for her. She’s been working hard to adjust to her new life, but I know that she’s lonely and doesn’t have much to do after her lectures.

I want to bring her friend from Earth and offer her a home in the palace. There will be consequences. The palace is still reeling from Lilian’s presence. Once they realize that more humans are occupying our world, there will be questions and demands. Already, there’s a petition for a program to help the un-mated find human mates. But I can handle the backlash. I can handle anything to make Lilian happy.

In my office, I lock the door and write instructions for my brother. I ask him to locate and interview Lilian’s beloved friend. My brother will help her settle her business on Earth to leave it. He won’t be happy about having to deal with humans, but I know that he will relent.

Once I finish my instructions, I have a maid deliver the order to him and I head for Lilian’s room.

I knock on the closed door, my chest swelling with excitement to see her. It has been a long, exhausting day, especially after our argument. But seeing her is always refreshing.

There’s a long sigh that comes from the room. She approaches the door, not asking who it is as if she’s expecting me.

The door opens and she stares at me with tired red eyes. I frown. “Were you crying?”

She shakes her head. “No, alien king. I don’t cry over men. I was sleeping.” She crosses her arms over her chest, trying to look tough, but her lips are poured and her cheek is marked with pillow lines. All I want to do is kiss her.

“I have news for you.”

“Oh?”

“I decided to invite your friend to the palace to offer you company.”

Her eyes light up with excitement and her lips curve, but the expression slowly fades over the next few seconds.

“What’s wrong? I thought this would please you.”

She nods and closes her eyes. “It does, and I’m thankful, but clearly you’re trying to bury what happened earlier.”

“I’m not trying to bury anything. There is nothing to further discuss. You disagree with my decision and that is fine, but I will do it again if I have to.”

She sighs. “You‘re not hearing me.”

“I heard your upset and I’m trying to move

on,” I grit. “This is not easy for me either. I didn’t ask for a human mate who doesn’t know our ways. I didn’t ask for this but I’m trying my hardest.”

Her nostrils flare and she reaches for the door, slamming it on my face. She’s outraged.

My words did not come out right.

“Open the door. We’re not done,” I order, my body tense. I will not walk away from her a second time today. I will not retire to bed while knowing that she’s hurting.

When there’s no response, I say, “stand away from the door. I’m breaking in.”

“Vulcan, you can’t!”

I chuckle and grip the gold doorknob. “A fucking planet couldn’t keep me away from you. You think that a door can?”

I twist the knob until it snaps off and step into the dimly lit room. I find her by the window, staring at me in horror as if she forgot about this side of me. As if she’s remembering what lengths I’ll go to have her.

“Now where were we?” I growl, crossing the distance between us in quick steps until I have her pressed against the window for all of the world to see.

He should have told her exactly what he was thinking before, about that he went against his sister for disrespecting her and wasn't gonna allow some snob to it 🤦🏻‍♀️
