Stevie - i'm wondering are you getting Jimmy confused with John Oliver? Jimmy has been a guest on a lot of shows in the USA tbf, and he has hosted a couple of game shows as far as I know. 'Distraction' being one in the 2000's

2025-06-23 11:07:20 +0000 UTCGreat vid guys, late to the party, naturally, but I agree with Brucey. I'll pre-face it by saying Bob Mortimer is one of my favourite living celebs going, but as its just been done on their channel, i'd perhaps start going down the Sean Lock rabbit-hole instead. Plenty of love for Sean so I think this would also appeal to audience outside of your subscribers.

2025-06-21 20:38:31 +0000 UTCCountdown first, which is not the same as 8 out 10 cats does countdown. Countdown is a very straight laced word game. 2 competitors. 9 random letters per round choosen at random. The competitors compete to make the longest word and score 1 point for each letter in the word 'if' theirs is the longest. Half way through theres a numbers game 6 numbers chosen at random. Competitors try to make a number selected by a randomiser using each number only once. +,Γ,Γ· or - can be used as needed. A second numbers game happens at the end and the conundrum finishes the game. Each numbers round is worth 10 points if you get the exact number, or 9 points if 1 away etc. The conundrum is always a nine letter word which has been jumbled and the contestants get 30 seconds to work out the word and buzz in. 10 points to whoever gets the conundrum. Now, 8 out of ten cats does countdown takes the countdown game (suzy dent the dictionary woman and rachel riley the letter placing lady and math wizard are from the actual countdown game) and replaces the 2 single contestants format with a 2 per side format and the contestants are nearly always comedians and the sort of shenanigans you see here ensues. Its more about the comedy than the game. Finally 8 out 10 cats. That is a comedy panel show in its own right, but the phrase 8 out 10 cats is a phrase that worked its way into the british psyche in the 80's after whiskars, a cat food brand used to end all of its adverts with "whiskars, 8 out of 10 cats prefer it" Some reason 8 out of 10 cats prefer it, stuck in the british concience and then the show used the phrase in its title and the rest is history, as they say.

2025-06-21 19:16:57 +0000 UTCOn a sidenote, you mentioned the Bob Mortimer series from WILTY. Of course it's a no brainer to go down this journey at some point but i would suggest one of the others like Lee Mack/Rhod Gilbert/David Mitchell/Greg Davies, many many others. Or just random clips. The reason i say that is because we have literally just finished the Bob saga over on RNTV and while i know you guys are a completely different channel, i am sure a lot of your viewers also watch M+J. I know everyone absolutely loves Bob but the others are equally just as funny, just not as weird. Just something to think about. Muchos Loveos :)

2025-06-21 11:33:56 +0000 UTCI will sum it up in 3 words : Funny as Fuck :) Loved this one guys, for this show, compilation clips are the way to go instead of full episodes. I say that for a couple of reasons. There are well over 100/200 episodes, we will be here till the end of time. The compilations show the best of the best (generally). The whole show from start to finish is very funny obviously and i certainly would suggest maybe watching a couple of them just to see how it works so you can understand the premise fully. There is no need to watch it from the beginning either, it really makes no difference and most of the best stuff came from later episodes.

2025-06-21 11:28:41 +0000 UTCI love how you're over complicating the rules again. π Great reaction though, and I think you're going to have a lot of fun with these UK panel shows.

2025-06-21 10:35:45 +0000 UTCThe name 8 Out Of 10 Cats comes from a famous UK cat food advert, "8 out of 10 cats prefers X". Accordingly the comedy panel show is based around polling people"

2025-06-21 09:25:21 +0000 UTCSo here goes, countdown was the launch program when channel 4 became a new tv station back in the day. 8 out of 10 cats was a game show hosted by jimmy Carr, channel 4 had a night of alternative comedy where one game show βcrewβ did a version of another game show sticking to the main rules of the show. It was so hilarious and popular they ran with it and 13 years later itβs still going and a staple of British comedy. The rulesβ¦ Jimmy-host 2 team captains and their guests Rachel Riley a mathematical genius does the numbers and letters board Suzy Dent is in dictionary corner a word wizard and always has a guest to help her Contestants pick 9 letters consonants and vowels and then the βcountdownβ clock gives them 30 seconds to make the longest word winning a point for each letter used if your team makes the longest word. The numbers round contestants pick 5 numbers from the top (big numbers 100,50,75) etc and bottom low numbers. Rachel presses the numbers generator and a number is generated which the contestants have to get to that number using the 5 numbers chosen. The last round a conundrum first on the buzzer. Last but not least R.I.P Sean Lock who Iβm sure you will love on the show. Probably missed some stuff but hope this helps.
