Saget Interview

Hello there

Little switch around for today after the horrible news about Bob Saget being away.

Thought I'd post up the audio of the interview I did with him a couple of years back, which is admittedly available elsewhere but it's nice to hear it isolated.

In this interview I was literally seconds away from bumping him as a guest as he was late and we couldn't get hold of him.  I'm so glad I didn't, and the ultimate irony is we overran (it was meant to be ten mins) so he would have been late for his next one too.  Basically, he was running late because he was generous in the interviews.  I ultimately couldn't go to his live show (I believe I was away at the time), but Nat went and loved it. The very short time I spent in his company I liked a lot.  One of my very favourite days on the radio that was.

So much so in fact, that I was in touch with his "people" just before Christmas to try to sort a reverse interview out to plug the movie in the States.  I don't mention that in a selfish missed opportunity way, I'm certain it was already not going to happen, but I'd been already thinking about him a lot because of it.

Other than this interview up there, I can heartily recommend any occurrence where he appeared on a podcast with Gilbert Gottfried as some of the naughtiest funnies you'll ever hear.  The episode of his podcast, "Bob Saget's Here For You" with Gilbert last year was incredible (and I've just listened to it again and laughed so much). The - now final - episode of that podcast with B.J. Novak is also a gem, and tells you all you need to know about Saget. I thought he was ace, and I very much like how enthused he was about what he was doing right up to the last day.

Hope your week is off to a lovely start there

Sending much love your way

Saget Interview

Agreed (I've never seen Full House). Think the retrospective is already in full swing

He was quite an amazing human being. I know a lot of people only know him from fill house but he was so much more than that.

Ha it is great, but Gilbert steals that roast for me. Hugely inappropriate but amazingly sold. I adore the Gilbert appearances on Bob's podcast (and Bob's on Gilberts). I've listened to them over and over this week, and find them utterly joyous in their mischief. I really, really like how Saget leads Gilbert constantly, prompting him to push it further. And the Bob saying "and why did you kill the other one?" about Gilbert's sister is like a precision shot. Amazing. I'd have very much liked to have gotten to speak with him again, but here we are.

This was a great interview, lovely to hear it again. You could tell Bob enjoyed it too. I wasn't aware of his podcast but listened to a couple of Bill Burr and Gottfried ones and they are very funny indeed. If people haven't heard Norm MacDonald's roast of Saget, that's worth a listen too
