I was lucky enough to see "2001" on the big screen back in the 80s; a local cinema would often show new prints of classic movies. It was an amazing experience. I highly recommend a recently published book: Space Odyssey: Stanley Kubrick, Arthur C. Clarke, and the Making of a Masterpiece by Michael Benson. This is a must-read for anyone interested in the film-making process (well, the way it was fifty years ago).
