I second the 2013 reboot and also the movie Mandy

This movie was one of the original 'Video Nasties' as it was considered so gory and obscene that it could corrupt and disturb audiences, and as well as being banned by the UK government, it led to the introduction of the UK Video Recordings Act in 1984, which meant all videos must carry a classification by the BBFC (U/PG/15/18) as up until this point, videos were released without any certification or censorship. The Evil Dead effectively continued to be banned from sale or rental in its uncut form and was finally allowed to be released in its uncut form on home video in 2001. Although this level of gore may be more normalised now, it was truly shocking at the time and audiences had never seen this kind of gruesome and intense material on screen - as it was tagged at the time, it was 'the ultimate experience in grueling terror'.
