Dialogue Animation Framework Progress Update: Dynamic Idle Cycling Per topics

So before anything; all the animations used on this vid are all on the vanilla game; so if you have issues  like if you think the animations do not look good then your beef is with the game's existing assets. 

Also this will mainly be a framework which uses DAR so animators can make anim packs and you can choose to plug dialogue animation packs for specific actors or for actor types.


The current system from vanilla wasn't as simple as I thought; I always thought the branches were just a bunch of states that had looping Idle animation clips; but looking at them in depth; Instead of simple looping idles; it consisted of 2 types: Standing and Speaking animations;

Standing Idles and Speaking Idles are both single-play animations that when finished, cycle with each other; there are currently 2 pairs of these two.

The speaking idles are what plays when the NPC is doing the conversation and the Standing idle is what plays when you are selecting through the dialogue options. But this might be a bit confusing for most; but since the animations are single play and can be finished; when these clips finish; they cycle with each other even when you havent transitioned to dialogue selection or when the NPC hasnt finished their sentence. But as soon as they finish or you click through the options; the NPCs immediately transition to the active animation(the one they use for when they speak)

I think how this was done was kind of understandable at least in vanilla because it also didnt look good if they had some specific idle and they dont change stance even when they changed their topic which is why the devs chose this options


altho apart from this; there's more I gotta figure out tho; I was able to ensure this behavior on NPC neutral standing reactions if it was triggered while they were in a basic standing idle; although I couldn't reproduce the cycling system when Actors are positioned differently; like during their crossarmed mode and holding objets mode.


Different reaction systems during different emotions will also come soon but the main focus will be making sure the 4 cycle animation in this clip is consistent on all scenarios.

This will be all for now. I hope I can push out a v1 in the next days, but I might need a bit more time to make sure it's consistent and have less issues along the way.

This looks really good! Definitely something to look forward to! Never been a huge fan of the alternate conversation camera thats been out but it seems to be the only option from what I have found.
