As promised, to close out the month. It wound up coming it at about 6500 words: not one of the longer chapters, but it was at a natural break point -- and if I'd pushed to the next scene, I would have gone beyond, and then a little more beyond, and then it would have been March.
This chapter just about finishes that particular (rather long) day in Trotter's Falls: there's a little bit more evening and a dream portion to do when we get back -- but after that, we'll be on the date of the party. Which means that after a very long time (and what I'm hoping won't be too much longer), we're going to be approaching something a mystery truly needs: the offering of the first parts for the solution.
I suspect people have been expecting things to happen at that party.
They're not necessarily wrong.
