That image was originally viewed as a placeholder.
I have trouble commissioning art. Part of this is fiscal, but a significant percentage comes from my twinned troubles in finding anyone who will take money from me and deliver the results in less than two months.
(This is a large part of why any and all hopes of creating print editions have stalled out. As the joke goes, there turned out to be something which artists won't try to create for money, and it's something for me. Not pornography. Not blasphemy. Me. So I guess the good news would be that at least there's a line?)
Still... this was going to be the next major story. The novel, since I think it's reasonable to expect it'll wind up at that length or greater. It suggested that asking for something (and then paying for it) was the way to go. But I wanted to start the story, and I was tired of dealing with futility. So... begin it when the chance arose, and maybe if I could find an artist, decide on which image I wanted to represent everything... then I could swap it out.
But even just two chapters in (with this one at 7k)... that symbol is starting to mean something.
I may wind up keeping it.
Besides, it was free.
And no one's told me they didn't want to try drawing one.
