Thickers & Tanks!

It's time for stickers and thanks once again. Sticker packs are in the mail for all Rockstar Patrons who joined in November. Credits have been updated on the blog and in videos.
My featured "book" this month is a copy of Live Steam magazine. To the best of my knowledge, this is the only North American live steam hobby magazine. I had never seen a copy in real life, so I figured I'd give it a try; lo and behold they have a no-obligation free trial! No credit card required or anything- just fill out a form and they'll send you one. It's a lovely magazine, I have to say! It's a bit hard to get into though, because most of the stories are "part 28 of 47" of someone's project. That's the nature of this hobby- the projects are long and the details are everything. Still, lots of good tips and beautiful photography. I haven't decided if I will subscribe yet. I do love that you get to see Kozo Hiraoka's latest project in real time, instead of waiting for the next hardcover book (which I would buy anyway because I buy all his books now).
Also hiding in this photo are two copper nameplates etched for me by viewer Gary. He wanted to try photo-etching copper, so he made me these serial number plates for my new boiler! I love them, and they'll be gettin' installed in an upcoming video.
Thanks again Patrons- your support means the world to me!

It looks like Projects in Metal has been out of print for some time. There are some compilation, Vol. 4-11 is $325 USD. Separate volumes are $45. Vol. 1 lowest price I found is $69 USD

2022-01-15 22:29:30 +0000 UTC"Projects in Metal" is the 3rd magazine by Village Press. I have "Home Shop Machinist" since issue #1 and also "Fine Woodworking Mag." which I have written for. The collections are getting out of hand as is the rest of my library. We could all use more space.

2021-12-05 02:39:58 +0000 UTCThe same folks that publish Live Steam also publish 3 magazines on machining. "Home Shop Machinist", "Digital Machinist", and one other whose name escapes me right now. I just call them all "things I read that I understand about 5% of". Actually I just signed up for Live Steam to kinda complete the set. I look at every project in Live Steam and think, "How big are these guy's yards?"
