I feel like mass culture is getting comicbookified - all the tropes that comics nerds have been familiar with for ages are being introduced into the general population. I'm really excited and somewhat scared to see what boggling crystalline structures the next generation of filmmakers is going to build on top of all of this this postmodern insanity. Or, who knows, there might be a backlash and we'll get a bunch of standalone movies in the near future.
