344. Kings of King: Christine

Perhaps the most important evil car horror film you’ll ever see, John Carpenter directs the 1983 adaptation of King’s Christine. Michael and Abe talk about how they accomplished the car regeneration sequence and wax poetic about the simplicity of the story, albeit absolutely insane and dumb. Get up in this grill, ya shitters!

A Jyncos Limp Bizkit killer in love with his car is a gift.

This is a copy/paste of a post I made back in October after a rewatch of Christine, one of my all time favorites. I’m curious anybody here would be interested. If Christine were made today, the equivalent car would be a 2000 Plymouth Neon. Christine was made in 1983 when 50s rock & roll and greaser culture was seen as cool again, but the movie is smartly set in 1978. So the audience sees Arnie as getting cooler, cuffing his jeans and slicking his hair back, blasting Little Richard and Thurston Harris, but the bullies have long hair and were probably listening to AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Van Halen, and Scorpions. In ‘78, the cool muscle cars to own were probably Pontiac Trans-Am and Chevrolet Camaro. It would be like if a nerdy high school kid today started wearing Jyncos and blasting Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach as he drove around in a killer 2000 Plymouth Neon that had a racing stripe. So y’all interested in my remake idea?
