This episode always gives me major anxiety!! So much shit going on, poor Buffy! But this is when I really started to fall in love with her character, I liked her before but her character development is perfection. And the show addresses it too, she’s becoming tougher and colder, and she lost somehow her innocence that was very much a part of her character in the earlier seasons. We already saw a glimpse of what buffy would be like without her supporting system in “the wish” episode, which is very much like faith. She’s getting more and more in touch with her darkness, and that’s the main theme of the season, she wanted to learn more about the slayer, her power, and we learn that her power is in fact rooted in darkness, her friends keep her grounded, faith on the other hand, embraced it. But buffy herself fears that she might lose it, that’s why she always fought it, we see in “restless”how in her dream she keeps looking for her friends, in “intervention” she raises her concerns to Giles, saying that being the slayer is turning her into stone, and getting angry at her friends for not being able to tell her apart from a robot. Now it’s interesting to see how buffy is changing when she starts losing people around her, like her mum, and if she will be able to keep her identity or lose it completely to the slayer. I love the duality of her character. Duality is also another big theme of this season, with Ben being glory, dawn being the key but also an innocent human being, ecc. I’m so excited for you to get to the season finale, and see the whole season unpuzzling.
