Sunny Day Jack Report 07/05/2023

Happy July! This week was a bit slow for some of our US-based team members due to the holiday yesterday and all the preparations that come with hosting parties, so this update is a bit short. Nonetheless, we've got some exciting news for Something's Wrong With Sunny Day Jack!

Background Art Progress

The image at the top of the post is by Kyotemeru, who has been pushing out a few more background composition sketches. Her process involves blocking out a few different angles for us to see which one we like best before she works on one to refine. Usually, we try to find an angle that looks the most natural with the sprites overlaid on it, since chances are that Y/N is being accompanied by Jack at the very least.

We can't share all of the new locations since some of them include spoilers, but here's a peek of the Hospital Lobby! Who might you be visiting, hm?

Narrative Progress

The narrative team had a meeting on Monday to solidify a few things, and we've now determined that Sauce can proceed with writing the remainder of the "Common Route" (the portion of the game before you're locked into a single character route while Biscuwuit and Gil work on outlining the rest of the character routes. Here's a sneak peak of a particularly juicy scene!

Jack: … You don't.

I have to ignore that. I can't afford to recognize it with other people around.

Jack: You don't see a future with me. You don’t think it'll last…

I hear the denial in his voice. He’s laughing and scoffing and pushing it away.

Jack: I don't need to know about your friends. I-I don't even need to know about "him." It doesn’t matter, because you don’t need me to.

…

Jack: … Did you even mean it yesterday?

The current document Sauce is working on stands at 4,100 words, give or take a few from scene notes/directions and names.

Unity Demo Progress

Terra is still stamping out a lot of the bugs reported in the official Bug Reports thread on the SDJ Test page and working on extending the script implementation as well. We anticipate Version 0.03 to release by the end of the week. As a reminder, we will only be able to address bugs in the Unity demo in the thread linked above as Terra will need to check what has or hasn't been addressed yet.
