I think this show is a real hidden gem that a lot of people skim over for the name and art style, without realizing it has just as much depth as Avatar related media. I think you should watch part 2 before deciding on the show though, as I think your impression will be incomplete without it.

I though exactly the same when I first start the series. "Oh, seems like a kid's show", especially. with the colors, the animation style and... the title of course. But I tried it anyway, because I heard some positive reviews about it, and it's now my second one favorite show, just behind ATLA. I hope you'll change your mind about She-Ra, but, he, if you don't, then so be it ;)

I discovered them a bit late (end of third book of ATLA) but there are without any doubt the best reactors I've seen, and I'm proud to stand here! Now, let's skip my meaningless intro and let's talk about that episode. Like the others, I can't wait to see Montana react and analyze the characters psychology (especially Catra which is, to me, the most interesting one). I think Montana will find the psychology of the characters fascinating, because the show does such a good job building the characters and giving them all development, conflict, and arcs

Season 1 of She-Ra is a lot like Season 1 of The Last Airbender in the fact that it's a lot of world building and introduction to characters. And much like how ATLA went from being good in season 1 to impressive in season 2 to incredible in season 3, She-Ra gets better as it goes. The last season of She-Ra is one of my favorite seasons of television period.

Your opinion is probably based on not watching it. The first season is cutesy like ATLA, but also has glimpses of depth such as Adoras start. The show is very deep. Don't judge it by the title. It is one of my favorite shows for a reason. I think it is ironic you think this based on no information when ATLA literally starts with a kid wanting to go penguin sledding.

I totally understand! Childhood nostalgia is a big factor for all of us, and also I feel like it’s hard to get into something brand new( at least it is for me hahaha). I hadn’t watched the She-ra series up until recently, when Kenny and Montana said they might watch it and I decided to give it a shot. I wasn’t super sucked in by the first episode, I mean I liked it well enough, but wasn’t like insanely impressed. But I kept watching to see what the hype was about, and I ended up really enjoying it! I hope they do Teen Titans as well 😊 also I thought they were having issues with DC copyright ?

Oh I’m definitely giving it a chance after watching this, I just think that while ignoring the issues I have with the first episode I still prefer either of the DC shows. I’m sure childhood bias plays into this, Young Justice and Teen Titans are just two of my favorite animated TV shows ever behind the ATLA, LOK, and Gravity Falls.

Totally understand your point of view, especially if you haven’t seen it! I would say give it a chance because more complex themes do come into play as they set up the world and character dynamics. Also that it is just a completely different series than any of the avatar series, although they do share some thematic elements! It’s definitely not something you would gather just from the first episode :) but I totally understand as I thought the same before I watched.

I've been very anti-She-Ra for the next series. I still think its a bit too childish coming off of Korra. From what I've heard this changes, but its still more of an adjusting period than the others. It would still be fun to see you guys watch through it together though.

Yes the shows design definitely has a more soft, child like pallet when compared with avatar! Much more confectionary, especially on the princess side :D I think the first eps are much more kids show and then it deepens through the seasons, hope you enjoy!

Okay, so I have not watched this either, so all I am saying are guesses too! :-) The colors are very bright, reminding me, at this point more of a childrens show than Avatar does. Some predictions I wrote down: - Catra will get the chance to betray She-Ra and will get the chance to choose for the "other" side, making the two adverseries. - Shadowthingie groomed her, knwoing she was the chosen one (sword!) but her parents didn't want it, so he killed her parents and he is the real endboss :') - Kenny is the boy with Glitter and Montana She - Ra, and they have come to our world and fooled us in thinking they never saw this. The resemblences in apparance are striking, so I won't believe otherwise. Also, "Let it go" gave me Frozen vibes, and than you have the waking up to a voice only you can hear and that invites you to go into the unknown! :P Excited for the next episodes!

I hope the YouTube comments aren’t filled with people like you insisting that they’re interpreting things wrong. This is their FIRST TIME WATCHING, let them figure stuff out on their own for god’s sake. I know that this show can get a lot more personal than LoK so you want to defend it, but you have to be accepting of other people’s perspectives starting out. Otherwise, you risk ruining their experience.

@Rebecca Mazer cause I like the world they set up, a handful of characters are honestly some of my favorite characters in media in general, and the comedy aint too shabby either. But at the same time the writing leaves a bit to be desired at times with it being a bit problematic at others with some storylines feeling rushed and fumbled or just unimportant. Plus a bit too much ableism for my taste.

This show is really good at dialogue most of the time. Lots of funny and memorable lines. Most of the parts that are dumb about names and such are results of where creative freedom was given too little leash rather than too much.. The resident psychologist is going to love a lot of the themes, too. I don't like every decision the show makes, but that can be said to varying degrees about all the shows in the lineup, and there is enough amazing dialogue and character personality for it to be very entertaining

I hope you’re able to see the second episode before you decide on what show to watch next because it’s a much better place to leave off if you have to. This is so exciting to watch as well because you two seem so completely unaware (not in a bad way) of what the premise of She-Ra and He-Man are. This show is a reboot of an 80s show that is a spin off of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe that was a cartoon designed just to sell toys. "magic sword that powers transformation" is the basis of both characters. But unlike the 80s shows this show has so much character depth.
